Collateral Damage
Just another innocent bystander

I wish there was some truly stress inducing messages at times when in combat in crowded areas. Bullets flying, innocent NPC's getting wounded, freaked out SIC messages and the like...but depending on level.

I think this would add some gravity to the consequences of combat in open, crowded areas and the use of explosives to make people RP the connotations of such use.

I wouldn't mind seeing explosions generate bodies if there was ambpop in the area and the bombs were powerful enough.
I think along with that similar thing, having a chance of getting hit with something or explosives or similar, there should be at the very least a think or something generated that says 'I need to get out of here' or something. Sometimes there are too many people just chilling at the edge of a massive gang battle or similar and it makes no sense, especially when bullets are flying or there are alot of people going at it
have you ever seen a fight irl lol
The popcorn factor of public fights is real. Bombs and guns would be devastating with the population density. This is a great idea. It's nice seeing the SIC shoutouts for some violence, I can only imagine the noise would be torrential with a major event.
For a while now I've been thinking that it would be interesting to have something like a 'Take Cover' command. Something that immobilizes you (in a similar way to sitting), and reduces your melee combat proficiency but lessens the chance to be hit by ranged attacks (if you're hiding behind that wrecked car or that table you can't exactly swing your axe as well as you usually do, but the reduced visibility from the shooter/s might just save your skin if they're staying at range). I feel like it would also make suppression a valid tactic, keeping someone pinned behind cover with your submachine gun while your ace kool charges in to finish the job.

This thread reminded me off it because when shit hits the metaphorical fan, you can assume most non-combatants will either flee or short of that get into cover, to reduce the chance that they get hit by a stray bullet or to (hopefully) avoid an explosion.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I like that idea! I've seen people when someone was shooting from another room use 'hide' to do something similar, but I think that'd be a nice addition. Like guarded plus some.
The combat system already has all of this factored in.
Mini-guns, which use heavy weapons, do indeed randomly hit bystanders when they miss their targets. It's not ambient population, but it does exist.

We've toyed with the idea of 'take cover' especially regarding sniping. I don't dislike the idea.

Creating corpses for ambient killed bystanders is a cool idea and something Cerberus has pushed for in the past. It will probably happen, given explosions would indeed generate a bunch of bodies.

If you do add reactions from the ambient population to combat and explosions, I want to see shouts generated in the background in the vein of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Re_tlOrhzLc
