Aerodynes :D
Some know what they are, others think the word just sounds cool.  I'm a little of both.
Now I don't quite know what they were originally intended to be used as, perhaps even quicker drop for Judges on RED, I have not a clue.  What I -do- know is they would be friggin awesome if they were in.

Now, usually the things I suggest are a little over the edge.  Like nuke-launchers for the WJF (prays).  But honestly they could be nothing more than cars at this point, with different descriptions and enter/leave/startup/shutoff messages.

How many peeps wanna see the judges come down to RED on a badass heli/hover/jet thingy?

Levs :D
I realize this isn't so much an idea as a question, but why do the levs go up to GREEN?  I mean...its sort of pointless.  If your rich enough to live up there then you've enough money to afford a car I'd assume...at 8k a room you'd better, and that's the cheap places...
You'd think the citizens living up there wouldn't want to be connected to the same -city- as mixers, let alone a train that can ferry them up for just 45c.

Automobiles :D
Horns for cars are nice, and its in another thread, but an intercom system on the cruisers would -really- be sweet.

But that's not what this is for...
Cars exploding, bullets shattering windshields, people getting mowed down, -in- their rides by mp-11s...this is what I seek...carnage.

Aerodynes would be pretty sweet, but they're still being developed as I hear it. It would be pimp as fuck though for an Air Assualt to have an Aerodyne sweep in, do a sweep with it's machine gun, then have a few judges rappel onto the street.

Yes, yes, I certainly agree.  But again, all they'd really have to do is make extra cars, and change the descriptions.

Though setting it to be operated by 'piloting' might be a whole different story.  Still, I wouldn't drive one knowing my piloting skill wasn't well enough if they decided to just do it the cheap way :D

The reason that we have Lev's that go up to GREEN is for the same reason the commuter rail runs out into the burbs.  Because some people just prefer not to drive.  It's expensive, and even if you are rich, you probably got that why by not spending money where you don't have too.

Blue on the other hand, theres a reason they don't go up to BLUE.

Heh... Aerodynes in the tunnels... Certain Judges that can't drive worth a damn crashing their WJF AD's into buildings... Umm.. yeah. I think there's more important stuff for us to fix and implement before we touch flying disasters.

Oh pish posh, it'd be great :D

Doesn't 'honk' work for horns? It should do. Needed modifying to use the same sound splash code the sirens do to give some range to it.

Damageable vehicles (and other objects) was on the priority list... 6+ years ago and I think there's some groundwork done on it. Definitely needs implementing now that people are using vehicles as mobile impenetrable homes. ;)

Yea, AV garage is position for the drop on RED, rapid response and such. Idea was to have some dynamic space code (similar to the badlands) to handle 3d airspace for flying vehicles (and parachutes, bungee jumps, hand-gliders, etc). Biggest problem is working out what the horizon looks like and how low you can go at any given ground coordinate (rooftops, etc for every coord). There's a post somewhere about it...

I wasn't saying the horns didn't work, was saying that if you get pulled over by a police officer, and they're suspicious, they won't walk up to your car.  They tell you from inside their car, to get out of your car.  Through use of a nifty intercom system that lets you know just who, and what they want.  Instead of say, me pulling up to five gangers and just honking my horn incessantly.

Aha, oki. :)

That has a certain comical charm to it. :)

Yes...apparently Icly as well.

...

An Soul...c'mon man, that happened like...once.  Err, twice :P  And eventually I'd drive them flawlessly just like my char has always handled the cruisers.  *chuckles*

**whistles and points to the two cruisers sitting in Buddy's garage**

*whistles and points at Tool*

*points two bird fingers @ Soul and Dam.*

*grins*  But yeah, seriously...
Things I think are good ideas.

Aerodynes get in game for judicial buttkicking all around.

Intercoms on Cruisers, purchaseable for mixer rides so if you got the flash, you can talk too.

Damage to vehicles can occur without having to run it into a building *again points at Tool*  Hehe mind you I'd think cruisers would be bulletproof at least to small arms.  Which means in order to do damage, high calibre or armor piercing rounds would be good, nades too.

Nuke launcher...c'mon yeah?

Enforcer Grenade Launcher.  What to do...make the nades work?  Nah, hasn't happened.  Possibilities = Shotgun, nade, non-lethal dart, imbedding tracker round maybe?  Something...

Make it the Dildonade Launcher!  I can see it now, mixers running scared after seeing one of there own mutilated by an exploding plastic penis round! Scary..

Ass-seekers...split ye in two man...

i like the intercomm.. i'm going to do that.

If only the freqman could access said frequencyz.

Its more like a horn that blairs your voice, not so much like a CB radio.

Oh word...that'd be sick!

Anyone notice accel and break have no effect while in motion?

Other than removing the room descrips, its true, it doesn't do its job heh

Back to Aerodynes, I think if they can't be used by PC's in-game why not...aerodyne support for PC's. Based on Rank of the said judge...for example.

ce wjf420 Ops, we got a food riot down here...I need immediate ACD support. Drop some damn CS gas on these bastards.

Ten seconds later...a CS grenade is hurled into the room.

Its a basic idea but you get the picture. Imagine being able to call in for support judges, grenades, etc...

Red is a war zone, right?

Red is a war zone, right?

No. It's happy handjob land.

KILL YOUR NEIGHBOR!

Well, they're working on other things right now, things that have satisfied my hunger for the aero's a little while *chuckles*

I must say...having the Aerodynes swoop in for drops/support is a sweet idea.

Can someone clarify what the IC explanation for aerodyne vs. traditional wheeled transport is?

There are room desc.s on gold that reference HovCabs or something. So is this another part of that two tiered have / have-nots things? Are the people that show off driving a Holden really just poor as shit compared to those that ride aerodyne's? And just for kicks, is there a rough estimate of how much a ride on a HovCab might cost? Ok, the last question was in jest, but I'm interested in knowing, given that vehicles with wheels are semi-upper-class due to restrictions on space/traffic, just where the hell do aerodynes fit in?

Speculating, the platform that is the underside of Gold sector sewers above Red is say, fifteen stories or so above ground level, correct? That's a pretty cramped environment to fly in, pretty exposed I'd imagine. By comparison, I imagine Gold sector is much airier, with skyscrapers I'd hope so, but how many stories am I supposed to be imagining here? I think it's cool that towers are in game, btw, and even cooler that they are stepped such that only ground levels are public accessible but you never really know how tall they are.

Anyway, hungry for info. about game world. Thanks.

Oh, and I don't think ACDs are aerodynes, they're humanoid drones that launch rACDs (which are air-based), according to 'help'.

Hope this helps...

AERODYNES

For sheer tactical versatility, there's not much that can beat an aerodyne. They can go anywhere that's above water, they can land in an area twice their size (which is a fairly small area), they can hover and perform all manner of vectored thrust maneuvers, they're faster than helicopters, and they can carry more armor.

However, there is a down side to AVs. Their mode of transport, vectored thrust from one or two jets, makes them highly vulnerable to heat-seeking missiles, which home in on the heat signatures of the thruster ports. And if they lose thrust, they have no airfoil surfaces to allow them to glide to the ground - an AV without thrust is a rock. In addition, AVs are expensive fuel-hogs.

The advantages of AVs are considered to outweigh the drawbacks. They're a fixed part of military structures now, same as Hummers and tanks.

I am very happy to announce the release of flight inside Withmore City.

:mirrorshades:

Aerodynes now exist and are very reasonably (though far from perfectly) integrated into the game mechanics.

Feel free to badger the characters you would badger about getting your grubby hands on the flight stick in one these.

Some Notes:
They are expensive and are easily more expensive than the ground vehicles available for purchase.

They are not faster than ground vehicles. This is mostly due to how complex the logic is to manage everything that happens when you fly.

They depend on piloting for use and aero_tech/auto_tech for repair. At present, they share body work parts with ground vehicles.

Theres a -lot- of empty, ambient space inside the dome wall. This will be getting filled in here and there with things, but don't expect the city to be a massive metropolis over night. This empty space occurs on the ground too, and if you land/stall/run-out-of-gas/crash into one of these places, you're stuck there ICly and someone will need to rescue you.

To those of you fortunate enough to be involved in testing, fall damage is now enabled. And yes, you can leave the craft while its in the air, and boy will it suck.

Again, expensive, not faster than cars, available ICly, but man are they fun. Oh, and compatible with ground vehicles (no bikes).

I must say that these things are sick wicked (or for you northerners, "wicked sick").

I was totally amazed, Jman and any of the other admin working on these things did a sexorific job. I mean seriouslly. I almost wanted to have johnny's baby after riding in one.

Almost.

:)
