Tech Scrubber
Recycling is good for you and the mix.

Tech scrubber :

A stationary item that can be used to break the connection between the item a player has and any existing piece of hardware that is currently linked with the item. Preferably , this item would only be available to registered security technicians or have an electronics/security systems skill check involved.

The use for this item would be to be able to reuse old security hubs and security system parts found on the market. Just about all the hubs , monitors , cameras that can be bought on the market are already linked with something and therefor pretty unusable for players unless they want other players looking in. The alternative is buying new , but where is the fun in that for a mixer ?

So instead , You can use the scrubber to remove the output or input feeds from a camera, monitor , hub , motion detector , microphone , …

Being able to remove the output or input only means that the people can also take over another players security system if they can get to the hub and steal it.

And of course , the mixer /badland variant : The Cutter. Where the scrubber is a high powered cleaning engine , the Cutter can best be described as an brute force macguyvered emp nade. The story goes that the blueprints for the Scrubber got stolen on the grid by a decker who, with the help of a few friends who may or may not have been banned sec tech, managed to cobble together a much smaller , much more mobile version. The Cutter does exactly the same as a Scrubber , but is highly illegal, can be used on the fly, but has a battery life of about 1-2 uses tops before the circuits blow and you have to get a new one. You hook up the cutter to the item in question , press a few buttons and voila. Fresh camera or hub , ready to be repurposed.

This Cutter of course is a lot more of a system to be used by players with less … legit motives.

I approve of it.

I don't know how it is for other countries, but here in the UK, pretty much every Used DVDs/Video Games/Electronic store does phone unblocking. And there are specialist stores for doing exactly this kind of thing.

And when you think of places like Japan and Hong Kong, and even Western cities, this kind of thing happens all the time - often stolen or "borrowed" equipment being re-purposed cheaper than the new value.

i fully agree with this. Anything to make already existing used items more viable is a step a positive direction. If they simply exist, and can be purchased from markets, but are unusable, basically makes them a trap. I know personally, I have bought quite a few items off of the market to learn about them, and how they can be used. Something like a security system, has quite a hefty price tag, and would make me pretty sad were I to drop the chyen on them, only to find them useless.
