It's now possible to specialize in up to two weapons. The option to specialize is avalible under @assign ue.
Presently specializing only has effects related to combat, but it's planned that specialization will be relevant to other tasks later on.
As always, your dilligance in submitting @bug reports is critical to our success.

Well... specializing in something means you devote a ton of time to it. So... I think we're lucky to get two. 8p

Well, I should probablly add '2 weapon types'.
If you specialize with your favorite katana, and then lose it and replace it with another, your specialization still applies.

i'm interested in what the effects would be if say..
You specialize in katana.
But then you get a ceramic composite katana. Hrmm.. what now?
I was told that it should pick up on some attributes that would be similar, and be able to determine wether or not that particular weapon object "counts".. But I'm not sure if the J-man meant that it will do this NOW.. or if it will be something that will be implemented later on down the road.
By Aikao at Jul 5, 2004 10:24 PM
He did mean that it will do it now.
If the weapon is similar (not exact, but close), it will apply, even if it's a different brand name or some other minor change.
Something like the composition of a sword is likely to have a pretty radical effect though, so while this applies to things like butterfly knives and stillettos, it may or may not apply to a steel sword and a composite sword.
Using your inspect command, you can ICly make a judgement call on weather or not you think the specialization applies. Weather or not that judgement will be accurate depends on your ability to inspect things proprly.

That's some scary shit...
Some questions :
Do pistols count as pistols or is caliber taken into account?
Like if you specialize in a Magnun .357 and by means of destiny end up with a Seburo 6mm will it count or not?
If you specialize on a baseball bat and get a steel pipe it works, but it won't work if you get a criket (sp?) bat, right?
By Xeethot at Jul 6, 2004 7:20 AM
Yeah, steel pipe ball is very similar to baseball but cricket is nothing like them. It's all British and stuff. All the people who play it have funny accents and are going to show up where I live tommorrow to kick my ass.

Nah...
I'll show up in about a year or so when you've forgotten all about it and are off guard...

No, to be fair, he has a point.
Jamaicans, Australians, South Africans, Indians, Pakistanis, Dutch and Zimbabwians do all have funny accents.
But, don't mistake Cricket as being a British game, sure, the scotts pretend to play it, but the Northern Irish and Welsh aren't big on the game.
It's English, very much English.
British indeed.
By King[Fu] at Jul 14, 2004 8:15 AM
Brittish. English. Welsh. Scottish.
All the same thing really.
*ducks and covers*

In the way Americans and Canadians are all the same I guess!
Damn colonials.
I love you really Iga.

So what about unarmed combat? can you specalize in that?
By Jotun at Aug 6, 2004 10:13 AM
i think the specialization code may be a doorway leading to more specific martial arts later on down the road. Probably gonna be something seperate.
Speaking of which, shouldn't martial arts be applied to weapons as well in how they're used? ;P
By Aikao at Nov 8, 2004 11:06 PM
Mellee weapons could benefit from martial arts, but I can't see how firearms would.
*wanders off dragging yet another almost corpse*
By Xeethot at Nov 9, 2004 3:24 AM
Unless your martial art is something like PPCT or Executive Protection-like defensive training, in which you train to use a gun as well as hand to hand combat... and you train in how to use a gun IN hand to hand combat. Or how to deal with guns pointed at YOU in hand to hand combat.
I was taught this one movement that uses the trigger guard on the gun to rip off your opponents finger...
By Iga at Nov 9, 2004 1:15 PM
Everytime Iga posts something like that a player craps his pants...
What?
:P
By Xeethot at Nov 9, 2004 3:18 PM
I think I crapped my pants.
By Aikao at Nov 9, 2004 3:18 PM
Come on, I can't be the only person on the MOO who's been taugh how to sever a finger.
By Iga at Nov 9, 2004 9:32 PM
Without a knife, I think so...
By Xeethot at Nov 10, 2004 2:54 AM
But it is super easy...I can show you if you want.
By Iga at Nov 10, 2004 8:50 PM
*offers his finger* Eh, I got more.

As easy as breaking someone's arm? (hold other's wrist down, other hand on elbow and tuh-wist....then lift to inflict pain and/or break arm. Not to be used on drunks cos they fall down a lot...)
BTW, my gf was staring at the screen, Iga, she says your icon looks like an enraged potato....
What's taters, eh?
By Murphy at Nov 13, 2004 10:37 AM
Your girlfriend is an enraged potato!
*shakes a fist in the air*
Yeah...it is kinda lumpy...it is stretched to fit the icon size.
By Iga at Nov 13, 2004 2:24 PM
Severe a finger without a blade huh? Sounds cool, I would think it would be rather messy but I am sure it can be done. So anyway I was thinking if we can specialize in two weapons can it be possible to customize them? I play another MOO where I have an smg, two pistols and s hotgun in which only I can pick them up. It is really cool. But like IC you would give your pistol a gel grip to better steady your aim. Or with a sniper rifle you give it a pistol grip or a thermo scope to find the hiding little bugger on the ground. Ya know something like that.
