Welcome to Sindome
This is the newbie guide to our world. Use the site, and other players to help get familiar with the commands and game-play of Sindome. Also, there is a whole bunch of stuff to get some specific help on in the Bitch Boards.

Introduction
The purpose of this beginner's guide is to get you on your feet. Before we begin there are a few terms and other things you should know before you start roaming the streets and RPing (role-playing). First, you should learn the difference between IC (In-Character) and OOC (Out-Of-Character). Anything that you learn OOC CAN NOT be used for IC purposes. That means that if someone's talking about another person's death over OOC-Chat or OOCly, your character doesn't know about it IC. Basically while you're here, you're someone other than yourself. You take on a role, hence the term role-playing. This means that your character most likely has a different history, different goals, and different skills than you do.

History
To make your RPing much easier, first come up with a history for your character. Your history will allow you to do certain things in the game, such as some of the jobs. It will also be used by the admin, and if you choose to, the playerbase, to get to know your character better for plots, RP situations, etc. We suggest that you first write it on a word processor and look it over a bit for content and readability. In game, type 'help social class' and check out the Sindome Timeline for more information. Remember, not everyone is an ex-ganger who kicked the shit out of someone and is running for their lives or had their parents shot to death and are seeking revenge. That can be very boring and cliche.

Typing '@history' now allows you to begin putting in your history. '@history show' shows you your history (if you have one) and '@history register' allows us to look it over. Again, not war and peace here but give us a background, your character's interests, skills, and past life info. Thanks.

Descriptions
As well as your history, you're going to want to set your physical description by typing '@describe me as "<type your description here>"'. An example description may be:

"The first thing you notice about Charles is the raven-black hair that hangs down past his shoulders. He is fairly well built and seems to be pretty young by his youthful physique. Hidden by hair are two deep blue eyes and a long scar running parallel to his left cheekbone."

Stuff like posture, demeanor, and manuerisms can be included within your description, but you want to avoid telling stories about what your character likes/dislikes and what they're wearing. Those are things found out through RP. Also avoid descriptions that include any cyber-gear. To look at yourself type 'look me'.

Clothing
Now that you've set your description and thought of your character's aspirations here in the Dome, it's time to get a job and some clothing. Let's start with the clothes first, since you might've already gotten a few weird looks!

Head south from the gates until you reach the area called 'City Gate - Courtyard'. There you'll see a building to your west. Go west into the 'Withmore Clothing Depot'. This is where you can create your clothing.

First you need some material, type 'push red on dispenser' and wait till you get your bundle before pushing the button again.

  1. Set the name for your clothes by typing '@name material '
  2. Set where the clothing covers by typing '@coverage
  3. Set the description of how the clothes look when you wear them by typing '@worn is ' You should use pronouns in your descriptions. (Type 'help pronouns' for more info on pronouns.)
  4. You can also set other messages. @cdescribe describes the clothing when you look at it. @wear sets the message you get when you put it on and @owear sets the message that other people get. Same goes with @remove and @oremove. To get a list of the currently set messages, type '@messages'.

OK, now that we're certain you're confused, here's what all that means. First you're going to need some material with which you'll make your clothes. To do this, you push the red button on the material dispenser. The machine then spits out some material for you. Next step is naming your clothing. For the example, I'm going to make a leather trenchcoat. So I'll type:

  @name material as trenchcoat

and if you check your inventory (type 'inv'), you'll see that the 'material' has been changed to 'trenchcoat'. Now I'm going to want to set how much of me this trenchcoat covers. To do this I'm going to type:

  @coverage trenchcoat

and then enter in all the numbers corresponding to the body parts i wish to cover, one at a time. Put on the trenchcoat (type 'wear trenchcoat'). Now look at yourself (type 'look me'). As you can see, the default message isn't really what the trenchcoat looks like when you wear it is it? Now you're going to want to set the description of how it looks when you're wearing it. I'm going to type:

@worn trenchcoat is "%N wears a long black leather trenchcoat that hangs down a little past %p knees."

As you can see, I've used some pronoun commands. Pronouns basically get information about who's wearing the clothes and plug it into the description. If you typed, '@worn trenchcoat is Charles wears a long black leather trenchcoat that hangs down a little past his knees.' Then the message wouldn't work when Susan was wearing it, would it? Go to the 'PRONOUNS' page for a list of what commands to use for pronouns. Type 'wear trenchcoat' and then 'look me'. You'll see the description for the trenchcoat has been added to your description. Now that you've gone this far, I don't think you should have any trouble with the last step. Congratulations on your new trenchcoat (or whatever you made)!

Now you should make yourself some more clothing until you're sufficiently clothed.

Survival
Now as for where to sleep and work. For now you will sleep in the Withmore City Services building; a rather shoddy place with 'coffins' to sleep in. Leave the Depot by going east back to the 'City Gate - Courtyard', and the coffins are just to the east of there. You will now find yourself in the 'Withmore City Services - Public Coffins'. Type 'sleep' to enter a coffin and 'out' to get out. This is the only safe place to sleep until you can afford an apartment. You CAN be killed while sleeping ... so sleep somewhere safe, like in a coffin.

Now the city only allows you free sleeping space for the first two weeks your new character is in the dome, so you should find some work soon. There are currently a few jobs available that don't rely on help from other players.

   SHI Factory Worker

  • Requires: an Approved History
  • Pay: 100 chyen an hour
  • Description: Pretty much the lowest form of work you can get. You just stand there and pack electronics parts in boxes.
  • Contact: No one, just scan in and get paid.

   WW Package Deliverer

  • Requirements: A sense of locations in the dome and an Approved History.
  • Pay: Depends on the delivery.
  • Description: You will be given a package to deliver and a location to deliver it to. Once it's delivered, you get paid.
  • Contact: Bruce at Withmore Wholesalers on the Gold level. Ask Bruce to give you a job

The SIC
The SIC stands for Secure Identification Chip. It is an implanted means of communication, allowing the selective passage of thought throughout a citywide network. Also, private messaging can be used. The chip also allows for the implantee to be tracked. These implants can be obtained on Soma Street at the Westside Elective Clinic.

Once obtained, type 'chelp' for a list of SIC commands.

Command List:

  • cm <message> = broadcasts a message to all people in the dome with the SIC implant.
  • who = shows a list of all SIC aliases currently online.
  • map = shows a map of the level you are currently on, and your location (if out on the street) with a '@'.
  • cc <SIC alias> <message> = sends a private message to <SIC alias>. Note that you may need to put some aliases in quotes: cc '<SIC alias>' <message>.
  • cr = replies to the sender of the last private SIC message you received.
  • chelp = Shows your account status as well as help on screening.
  • ca <name> = Sets your SIC name.
  • ct <message> = Sets your SIC tag.

I know you have a lot of questions like 'Where can I get gear?' or 'Where are the guns?' and my answer to you is, that this place isn't all shooting and killing. Also they both cost a lot so before you plan on finding a gun and killing for experience and gold, let me remind you that this isn't just a hack n'slash MUD or Dungeons and Dragons place. This place is built around RP, not combat

Speaking of experience, we have UE (unassigned experience). You gain experience each day for logging on and staying on. You get one UE for each three hours you spend on Sindome that day (limit two per day). Type '@stats' to see how many UE you have as well as your current stats. To assign your UE, simply type 'assign ue' and follow the directions.

Well, that should about cover everything you need to survive besides street-sense. If you need further help, ask the administrators by typing 'xhelp HELPPPPP!!!!!' or some such.
