Allow more corporate flash freedom

Lately, I’ve been noticing that corporations keep denying a lot of things players want to do. To me, it just kills the vibe, drags out plotlines way longer than they need to, and makes people wait forever for anything to happen.

What if corp citizens had expense accounts they could use to fund their own schemes? Maybe this would only make sense for full-time, tenured employees. It’d let us pay others and get our plots moving without so much red tape.

Right now, it feels like the requirements to spend corp money are way too strict, especially since corps are supposed to have endless resources. It just breaks immersion and slows everything down.

What do you all think? Would something like this help make corporate RP more fun and active?

Expenses take some IC politics. There are a multitude of ways to frame plots as beneficial to the corporation and get support, but also there is a requirement of balance. You aren't always going to be able to rely on the corporation for everything, it is not meant to be a free source of chy for everything. The base pay is high to compensate for that very reason so you have the ability to pay out of pocket if needed.
Not that I've witnessed. This may be anecdotal but all of mine experiences have been negative. Months wasted on things only to have the entire RP plot scrapped because SORRY NO CORPO MONEY.
The resources are not actually endless, nor they are supposed to be treated like that - unless this is something person in sufficient IC power and position told you so, aka someone controlling that specific budget.

And you can use expense accounts to fuel personal schemes, just have to be a bit creative with it, level 900 in corporate double talk in triplicate :P.

Though I would like if there was RP retcon where expenses can become "spending suggestions" (a secondary category), because as it is you spend chy, and if you get refused, you are ust out whatever chy was there and it can be really sting.

I don't exactly agree with the original message. BUT, I thought of a way that I think would reach a similar goal pretty well.

I think Corporate characters should be able to keep track of how much funds are in the expense budgets that they have access to. The main reason for this is it could encourage embezzlement, which gives players more funds, but also more chances for consequences if they don't do it right. Pull the old trick of using all the money in your budget (even if you don't really need it) so they increase your budget next quarter.

Additionally, it could encourage more competitiveness within a corp. That coworker from another department just used up the entire budget? Go threaten or blackmail them.

Also it would just make doing reimbursements a lot simpler.

It's going to be rather difficult to use the entire budget for a corp as the numbers there are pretty high. Embezzlement is already done, just plot, play and frame things in the correct way ICly for the corporation. If you've ever had to justify going to a "work conference" IRL and had to submit an application for it to your company, it's the same thing.
One person alone usually isn't able to use up the whole budget, yeah. But an entire department in a well staffed corp? It happens, especially when big projects are done.

And yeah embezzlement is already done by a lot of players, but more doesn't hurt. It's very themely :)

Also, asking your boss is a great way to find out how much playroom you have with a budget. I think the mechanics of embezzlement and the art of reimbursing things should be left to FOIC rather than have an OOC guide on how to do it. It's a RP opportunity to find a mentor to learn from.
