1: Bioware as a whole, either as a biological replacement or addition to the body that can exist outside of our current existing nanogenics.
2: Functional Biomodification and how it differs from bioware.
3: Fun things that would be balanced and interesting to see.
1: As it currently stands, all chrome that exists in the game has biological components to it, even if it's a metal arm. If damaged, they will heal like a regular injury would due to self-repairing mechanisms, with more advanced damages requiring specialized people to fix. This is a system I really enjoy, though bioware has way more applications than what currently exists. Nanogenics do exist that supplement existing organs and structures and in a way they would quantify for this, but what about full on organ replacements? Where's the designer hearts they give to bodyguards to automatically defibulate them just before they start to take brain damage? The lungs to keep that courier running longer before getting tired? Bionic jaws for biting through particularly tough vat-steaks? Livers that they force CEOs to have in addition to Toxin Binders to prevent them from ever being poisoned, but also makes it so that they can't even get drunk? Obviously they don't exist for code or balance reasons, and 'what is available in Withmore' is not 'what is available around the world' due to shipping, licensing, and various other legalese factors, but do these exist? Could we write up a bunch of bullshit bioware that doesn't actually exist that MIGHT exist in the future?
2: As it stands, Biomodification is interesting because it changes people on a genetic level compared to Bioware, which is simply additions that could potentially be stripped out, or in the case of nanogenics, remain on the corpse. What is the reasonable limit that someone could have in terms of 'functional biomodification' beyond the new nervous system that biomods now provide? As it stands, .5% of your body mass means a 200 pound man can enjoy, at least without getting into hot water, an entire pound of increased functionality, of which the nervous system additions do not equate the full factor. If we're talking small changes that require little weight redistribution, this means you could alter some existing human features without visibly changing a lot, or replicate some functionalities of chrome with some biomodification packages and have them inherently!
3: I really enjoy the concept of 'exotics' existing that use a blend of chrome, bioware, and biomodification to achieve a certain aesthetic. Not particularly 'animal' in nature, but different from a base-line regular human being, possibly with a pre-established package of chrome paired with certain bioware and biomods. Transhumanism is a core concept of cyberpunk culture and everyone wants to 'evolve', and I think giving people a path to that seems interesting, and something that corporations that have the ability to change others would absolutely push for. I do not think that letting people fully transform themselves into their FURRY DONUT STEEL OC is a legitimate concern that we need to really be worried about as long as people are playing to theme.
