Lower the cost of clothing in the market

There's clothing pieces in the market that are being given costs in the six digits. And really, no matter how good the clothing, no-ones liable to pay that for second hand.

So I suggest reducing the cost of such clothing by at least fifty percent, to encourage people to actually purchase and reuse it instead of having it sit in the market for eternity. As it is, buying 'off the shelf' clothing or new tailored clothing is usually cheaper than buying second hand stuff.

I agree, to add on to this I feel the gap between the functional "I am wearing this to cover my skin." (Aka depot clothes) Versus "I express myself with my clothing." Is too large. I feel that adjusting the market prices would help close this gap.
You're wrong. Find a fixer.
Depot clothes are very affordable, but basic underwear or simple themed clothing through a tailor can cost ten to twenty times more.

If the market is meant to offer an alternative for finding clothes without going through a tailor, it might be worth looking at ways to make that option more accessible. This could also help players and fixers stay more active in clothing people while keeping things balanced.

On a related note, the last time I reached out to a fixer for something was about a month ago. I completely understand that IC time and availability vary, but I figured they were just not able to find what I was looking for. In the end I went with a retail purchase, but I would love to see more opportunities for the market and fixers to be part of these transactions.

I suggest finding an IC tailor, and paying them well. It’ll still likely be cheaper than the cost of most well-made market clothes, and tailoring takes a lot of OOC effort and time that should be encouraged and rewarded.

I think many of the clothes you’re talking about that cost hundreds of chy are made of extremely expensive materials.

Sorry for the double post, I did want to say that you do make a good point about the cost of clothes in the market, and there can be a lot of fun involved in discovering cool clothes in there. I’m not sure how the market values things and how the value of items is calculated, but there are ways for people with the right skills to haggle something down a good amount.
I think what I mean is.

The depot - Under $30.

Your first starter outfit in the mix from a tailor is anywhere from 2k - 6k. And with the rate things get burned and destroyed, that's not fun.

If one item of market clothes is 3k - 10k, that's not an incentive to buy it.

Even with people skilled in the markets, the cost of many of the pieces of clothing from the market is higher than buying brand new from a tailor character… which seems contrary to the whole concept of 'these are old, often damaged, pieces that are being hawked off instead of just outright destroyed'.

And yeh, some of them are made from very expensive materials. But again, if they're priced at a point that no character is liable to be able to afford (let alone want to buy them) why leave them hanging around at all cluttering up the database?

man I had the exact same feeling, like if it's a marketplace of dirty used clothing sold by peasants why are they selling them for the price of a small car? who's intended to buy these? middle to rich people would just have custom stuff made, poor people can't afford it and are they expected in character to go to a sketchy marketplace with their entire life savings to buy a used shirt?
I completely agree that you should be able to find a bargain on secondhand, tailored unarmored clothes in the market. I think a 30% - 50% reduction in price would be about right.
A few months ago I wrote down like a 5 paragraph rant and never posted it because I thought it was too venty and that nobody else had this issue, but yeah in the current state at least for clothing I don't see any purpose of the marketplace existing logically given the prices of things being sold both IC and OOC why anyone would buy clothes there for the prices
