Transfer data between decks

While I completely understand why you wouldn't want to transfer compiled programs between decks, as that kind of just makes deckers cuboid program factories, it would be nice if you could transfer data such as device IDs, geocodes and known daemons between decks. It opens up opportunities for people to run around with a deck on behalf of a decker, scan some devices, and then sell the data back to a decker who can transfer it onto their main terminal. Or allow a decker to replace some of their hardware without having to make a trek to re-scan all their gear.
That would mean you can keep your nova in a locked safe and never in your life risk it which… I believe is core of the design point, that you have to chance this expensive kit, either by going there yourself or hiring someone to do it, who may or may not betray you, instead of using disposable quick terms.
I get your point, but the way it is now just seems, to me at least, like deckers will just end up with piles of QuickTerms stashed away rather than one or two terminals.
I mean, I see the opposite so far with tons of nova and lites rolling, but obviously I only have the player view of things.

And I really would hate for deckers to buy those fancy toys, put work into them, but be about the only job out there that never has to risk them in any way, that's just… Sad.

So if people just turn to endless quickterms instead, well, problem to solve if we get there.

I'm against this. There has to be some physical risk involved in decking as well as restrictions - it's already quite powerful. Give someone your term so they scan with it, if you want others to scan on your behalf. I think the terms being restricted in that way is the perfect solution.
I think the current system probably should be left alone for a while until it is better understood how it affects the overall game. If there was a mechanic for this, it would need to be extremely painful/difficult to make it the least-efficient method and be risky (risk of bricking devices, extreme heat, time gating, etc.)

Perhaps find some way that deckers can't do it on their own: maybe there is a dedicated device in NLM offices that is the only place it can be done. Requires gridworks admin access. Etc.

It is purposefully not possible. It is about balance and taking risks. I thought about this and gamed out how it would work if we allowed this, and it reduces risk taking, creates situations where people keep their valuable possessions locked up, and generally results in a fortress like attitude towards decks. We don't want that and this I'm not planning to change this anytime soon.
