Improvements thread. This is a place to comment on changes.

New ideas / feature requests should be a new topic in the ideas section.

Complaints should go in the appropriate section.

Do not use this thread for anything other than feedback, as it will not be reviewed after the month ends.

Bob the Builder got nothing on Slither! Thanks for the quick inspect addition.
Great work, massive QoL
I like the small grid update, especially the removal of automatic node creation. Means less things to have to do if you need to make a new gridmail for whatever reason.
Why were forum post characters limited? :(
Why is anyone making a single post or reply longer than most chapters in a book, is the real question.
I put in a note on why.
If this is a needed change though I'll adjust. I get it. It's just a pretty big shift to make for some. Don't mean to be a downer.
Forums are good for shorter length things. Nodes are best for longer form stuff. And like… You can just make two posts if you need more than 7500 characters.
Dang. Automatic node generation was something I really enjoyed making use of because it gave good data about new accounts. It was like a news feed of info. How will grid watchers get some other way of keeping up with who's who aside from using decker tools on every single new node? Maybe an activity feed for new account generation? But how will they get the data about the new account?
Disclaimer: I know nothing of sindome decking.

If this existed as feed for deckers, mind that this would have to be thousdands of new nodes every day, how would anyone be able to actually keep track of it, and just say "this is new" and tracking who it may belong to without external factors/work etc seems pretty smallworldy.

I don't disagree, but it's not like this mechanic is without work on the PC's part. Just trying to use the tools available to me. Now I've got one less tool. Does it break everything? Well…no, but if you are used to being able to read DNS records or something to identify who's who, and then suddenly there are no more of those, then it begs the question what is out there which I can use to do that.

If the intent is to stovepipe deckers into the warez mechanic for everything, okay. But is that the intent? If not, was this impact intentional?

I really disliked that you didn't even need decking skills to skim this stuff and I saw quite a few times people accidently giving themselves away with it very very recently. Yes foic or whatever, but it disproportionally put newer people at a disadvantage. It just seemed illogical from an ic perspective that NLM would throw this information out on someone for free when those IDs can be so impactful.

With this change I lost a tool that has absolutely benefitted my characters in the past, but I think this is better for generating conflict. If a decker wants to do a super cool rp where they deep dive a grid account to get a SIC ID, I think that's great. Maybe it takes admin oversight and some measure of risk to do that. Maybe non-decker people interested in this data could contact a real decker to get it. But with how this worked, there was just no risk, easy pickings free data that doesn't require you to even move from a room.

I am also with Aida in that it doesn't make sense a decker could possibly keep tabs on every new grid account that was registered. New nodes, sure and while the tools to poke at nodes COULD be more developed, they're at least there and people could potentially request admin support for some kind of plot regarding them.

This was a pretty big change though, so I wish it had some kind of IC roll out that was made big public. (But I always want this :P)

TLDR: This change makes IC sense to me and makes deckers feel more special, but I wish it had been announced ICly because it is quite a big change.

I guess it is a step in the direction of if you play a decker then get used to just a lot of hand waving and gm supported RP.

I put a lot of work, months really, into making that data usable (as staff knows) and earlier posts indicate that people have started changing their behavior to IC make node changes when they create an account. I'm assuming they are doing node sanitization. Making people ICly worried about their character's grid activity being tracked, monitored, and the unawares being exploited by deckers? Sounds pretty CP to me. I agree, would have been nice to see that at least acknowledged in the change NLM made ICly to NLM's account creation policy if this was in fact a megacorp wants to protect people's privacy thing….which I question the themeliness of...

I like that change. I might even start using the grid again.
You can still get sic id's of people, and link them to someone, this isn't a piece of data that suddenly became impossible to get, it just requires reaching out to people who can get this data for you, one way or another, you don't really need GM help for this.
