Dossier E-Note Format
Export/Import/Compile PayData

As it stands now, the paydata game is largely socialized, and their are some notable meta usages of name in places such as Cash N' Carrion.

My proposal is a complex one. The ability to create a compiled dossier mimicking the already notable features present in the WJF Tac-Comp.

This dossier format wouldn't be automated though. It would require the compilation of photos, and various data fields such as: Name, SIC ID, Height, Eye Color, Heritage, Hair Color, Build, an option for a Photograph, and a note.

As such, this data would be able to be printed, and more importantly imported into devices like other e-notes, tac-comps, and bounty terminals.

This is a lot of work, but ultimately the goal would be to create an actual paydata data flow rather than a bunch of hearsay.

I LOVE this idea! I can see it being used for all sorts of jobs, too.
Love this idea. Could even see this being a default option in e-prints, that gives you prompts that you fill out as you go, and whatever is printed has a space for a photo or something.
I'm not sure I understand how this is different from the dossiers players already create with all this content in them.
They key differentiator would be populating actual fields of data which could be further manipulated. Same same but different. A more functional foundation for forensic information having a direct usage, if you would.
It basically allows for a template, a consistent format for data-brokers that is both easier to read and also easier to enter data, right?

If this could hinge on Forensics skills, that would be a great way for people who have it to use it in more ways. Detectives need some love
Precisely, but I also imagine it working as a gateway to a database like functionality. Imagine fostering internal databases based on submitted .dossier templates that could be queried.
Would also argue static formats and the simplifying the creation of something mechanically makes it more inviting. Going from 'well gee, I don't know how to make a dossier' to 'oh, I just have to fill out this info and I make chy from it' is something that would likely increase participation in the data trade.

Plus there would be presumably less putting your [DOSSIER 1: MAN] next to your [Dude: The Best Dossier on Dude Ever] next to your [PRESENTED BY DOSSIER GENIUESES: Guy] on a shelf.

Adding to crashdown's post above, I think the fact that standardized format could be probed for things like completeness or, by some more advanced system, accuracy, would also allow a vague preview of what you're actually getting for potential buyers. As in a 80% complete profile versus a 40% complete profile, and so on.

Same time though, I feel like numeric height and weight could use a quick sanity passover to normalize some extreme outlier values or height/weight combinations if they're going to be more prominently used. I've also personally received results outside the chosen ranges during chargen, which is odd to me for a coded process to violate its given range.

I like the idea.

If using the existing tac-comp setup functionality there'd need to be some cleanup, like number one: being able to using spaces to create paragraphs.

But your .dossier functionality for an e-note is not only a neat idea, but also opens up the pathway to introduce this ICly through means of gathering the more noted (no pun intended) e-note formatters to submit these templates/revamp. Sort of rewarding the good work they've done already and preserving those types of efforts.

Don't let me rain on your parade or anything but I don't get it. Every dossier is different, different people involved, different information, different interests. And if you need a standardized template, you can make one.
Any system that will improve identification, or make it easier, is counterproductive I feel. Every stone already gets turned, virtually every event is investigated by half the active player base and almost everyone gets identified for everything (because the meta clues mean there is only ever 1-5 possible subjects to suspect).

I do think forensics is underserved as a skill strictly speaking but it is as much because there is no need for it. Withmore is like an incestuous small town full of gossips, there are rarely any secrets anymore to the detriment of things (at least in the Mix).

It does sound like a fun data-compiling mechanism but I would hope that if something like that were implemented it would be in concert with other systems that made it needed, ie. that make activities and identities less discoverable through the typical means and therefore necessitated investigative tools.

Without going into detail, I can say that at the very least I would appreciate if there was more incentive for players with forensics as a skill to exist for some mechanical purposes.

I think one way it is underserved is in how human-focused it is, when there's a huge field of chemical forensics, ballistic forensics and vehicular forensics to cover.

I'd like to be able to determine what kind of weapon caused what hole. More specifically beyond it had a blade, was it a waki? Nailz? Katana? What caliber pistol made this hole in my chum's head? Can we have blood pools left behind and be able to draw samples from it to track who bled there?

Also bullet holes, shrapnel, casings, etc. represented perhaps as part of the mess/damage that has to be cleaned/repaired. Maybe some of it stays for a while depending on the cleaner's skill, maybe even making room for janitor characters to turn into professional crime scene scrubbers.
I think that part of being good data broker is knowing what to collect. What is useful. How to present the data. At the moment, I am not a fan of this being standardized and given to PCs. I'd rather them buy data from other brokers to get an idea. Maybe train under one. And as some say, what data matters will sometimes depend on the target and objectives.

Now, I would LOVE some way to combine a picture with a data file. I've worked on all kinds of hackish methods and the ability to label photos helps a ton but actually having a file that is the text you want and a picture all in one would be awesome and is as much as I personally would want to have for dossiers- if it's not already there as I haven't played much with the new e-notes and scanners.

Something like pin photo to item?
