Funishments
How to get enjoyable closure for criminal RP

Hi! So crashdown suggested some good ideas for SCF prison RP in a thread. I love these ideas and have some other ideas as well.

Firstly, I have to say that my interest in doing criminal RP considerably increased last year when a particular Judge started throwing around threats of unusual and bizarre punishments not found in the WJF handbook. Things that would obviously not be fun for my character but amusing on a OOC level, fun concepts through which I could explore how my character would react.

A lot of the best punishments, in my opinion, involve a choice that the victim has to make. This choice is, how far will you go to hold onto your dignity? I know some characters who would rather face death than make a public apology statement. Some characters for whom doing community service for a corp is a humiliation that would challenge the way they see themselves. Especially if the corporates involved actually do things to make the community service engaging rather than just having the person occasionally do janitor duties until the ~2 weeks is up.

Also, could we get more interaction with the Corporate Buyback system too? What if you give a person a choice between a 50k fine, clone death, or becoming a corporation's legal property for however long? One of these has more exciting opportunities for RP than the others.

I agree the corporate buyback system is underutilized, and a great way to spice up punishments. If Carl Corpsec wants to use a Mixer as a footstool for a week, and Jimmy Judge finds the right candidate, that's a whole lot better and worse than just getting vatted.

I do believe that the punishments should probably be submitted with more specifics than just corporate property for a week, as it's on Judges to pick and choose these candidates carefully and not disrupt the flow of the game too much by taking someone out of their habitat too long, but there's definitely someone that'd be perfect/terrible for. It also doesn't have to always be something humiliating either. Could be work you want done that you couldn't find someone to agree to do for pay.

Corpcits should definitely step up and interact with this more. If punishments become.. funishments, that definitely entices more crime too and fuels the cycle.

I feel like the desire to do high level, high effort crime and terrorist RP can be made or broken by the response and punishments. In my experience people RP those achitypes specifically to achieve and be involved in those sorts of things. The drive for that RP has kept me playing for over 3 years now, even if that goal hasn't been met.

There's a very unique difference between community service and the corporate buyback system. There's a reason the corporate buyback system as it works now exists with the guidelines it does.

Those would probably need to be adjusted in some way to make it more plausible for standard sentences if the corporations wanted. There's a big, big difference in what will happen to a character in community service versus legally bought by a corporation.
