Internal Corporate Networks

Wouldn't it be cool to have internal corporate Grid networks that are supposed to be accessible for employees only? It could be tied to the SICID of the Grid account, and check if that ID is an employee. We could have file sharing and stuff. People could try to infiltrate a corpnet, and people could also try to defend their corpnet from attackers. People could try and spoof SICIDs or impersonate devices. Could have "file servers" that must be protected, or broken in to. Stuff like that.
Completely related to this idea, I really think that some sort of factional database using the filesystem system would be amazing. The amount of history and paydata that could be stored and subsequently stolen as a result of such a thing would be immense. All reimbursement data could be archived to keep track of what an employee has done, employees could offer their own reports in text files uploaded to the database, and new employees could read them long after the subjects of the files are gone.

Read back on what was common practice, or interesting events related to the corporation or faction. Steal copies of the data to sell to other corporations, leave a digital paper trail of it. Or don't, if you have the right skills. Endless possibilities for deeper espionage and preservation of the history of the game.

I love this! It's similar to some of the ideas I suggested for the new grid. Some time ago.

I think that the grid needs to be useful for everyday people. From Gangers to PR and HR and CorpSec and Production and more. By this I mean that no skills required usefulness. Remove a lot of the whiteboards and e-notes and the like currently used and replace with the grid with access control that either runs at the default or, if the organization is smart, whatever the decker they pay can manage.

Including 'grids'. The Public grid most use. The NLM grid. The VS and PRI grids. The WJF grid. Access limited by location plus whatever default or decker driven access control may exist.

Because it's useful you actually have useful data there. Relevant up to date data. Some of it maybe even created as a part of those new topside quests and GMs and other systems but mostly by players. Now hacking it has value beyond drawing dicks and seven year old data that was only there because a rare decker felt generous enough to create content for other deckers.

Because it's an organization grid, you have to be there to use it. Get players to their workplaces a bit more maybe. And it means hacking an organization's grid can involve more people. Distractions. Security for the decker. A wheelman. And if they are local maybe you can tie in cool things to it like cameras and doors at that site. Which gives more reasons for a team to hack it because it's more useful!

And of course I write this minutes before reading about the data vault feature staff just added! While it's not the same thing the spirit is the same ant it's great. I just wanted to mention it here as a kind of recognition of the great things being developed and so that others who read this will know something kind of like this seems to be in the works!

This has been implemented one way or the other with the data vaults. It's as if batko had been reading my mind! I also am taking to mind the other suggestions in this thread for my brainstorming.
