okay, someone once told me (admin) that search was like you were turning everythnig in the room upside fuckign down looking for something. Well if so change the damn message from casting an eye over shit to fucking up everything turning shit upside down looking for something special, or some shit ya dig?
cool
i'm out like a fat kid in dodge ball.

um i'm not sure about that.  To me (yes this is opinion not a declaration of 'the way it is') With the fact that stealth doesn't entail actually -hiding- in a room, rather making yourself unremarkable, then search on the same hand should encompass actually tearing apart a room, or just taking an appraising glance at a room to see what looks out of place, or to see who is attempting to lay low.  I guess I could say, searching should be done with a bit or self policing, pose to show that your 'tearing a room apart'  and in a perfect world, a person whom is hiding would have to try and sneak away lest your search finally lead to his position.  But alas in our inperfect world of @stats, our ghost ninja's can just sit and hide in a room, secure in the fact that thier uber stealth will keep them hidden even if someone's tearing a room apart looking for them.

Eh, there I go getting long winded again, here's the short version,
I think that if in a bare hallway a search is a studied look around,  In a back alley it would consist of looking behind trashcans and in dumpsters, under derelict cars and in the piles of trash blown up against the buildings like snow drifts.
Yep thats what I think, well at least what I'm thinking after two hours of sleep and four cups of coffee.

The problem is, as Bixby pointed out, 'search' means different things in different RP situtations.

It is at the very least, noticible and disruptive to other people, and at it's extreme, 'turning the room upside down'.

But putting that into the message is problematic, for exactly that reason: It's not always realistic to turn the present room upside down. In the middle of the desert, it would probablly mean getting on your hands and knees and sifting through the sand. In a bar, it would mean looking closely at people, looking under tables and in dark corners, etc. In your messy cube it would mean tearing through your pile of dirty clothes.

It's left purposefully vauge to support all forms of RP: The actual actions of the searcher is a matter of interpretation, guided by the tennant that it's the equlivent of 'turning the room upside down', or some other equally disruptive action.

Perhaps you might suggest a better message, keeping the above in mind?

I think that maybe not tearing the room apart but how about

'<person> begins calmly lifting things up and searching for something of interest.'

I dont know but I do think that to tear your stinking cube apart looking for something like a hat or something else little would just be kind of overkill in a way.
