Sick tan, chum.
Changing your @skintone through IC means.

I imagine @skintone will not be open to be freely changed forever. Characters will likely be forced to pick a natural skintone and stick to that, and therefore I think some IC mechanics to have it changed (either temporarily or permanently) might be neat.

Tanning beds to deepen your skintone (with different levels/durations of the treatment giving you varying shades of darkeness) are an easy choice here, but there are room for other creative things. If a darker skinned character wants to lighten their skintone, perhaps nanogenic treatment or some other machine can come into play to accomplish that.

This would also play into the disguise system nicely - it'd be hard to recognize JoeBaka who you know to be white as Vanilla Silk, who is now rocking a nice tan.

Thoughts?

+1, reminds me of the make-up disguise scene from Zoolander.

They'll be looking for us at Maury's, right? But they won't be looking for...not....us.

I like the idea of changing your skintone from dark to light, Michael Jackson style.

Also the opposite, of course. But it's the only real life example I can think of. Though, I guess he also did that because of his skin condition.

Still, I like this! Could be that if you stayed outside the Dome a long time without enough cover that you get a tan, maybe?

Or perhaps even medical conditions that changed your skintone and other appearance items.
Withdrawing makes you pale?
Certain nanos change your @lp to make your skin look pale, some others blueish.
Else like, I don't know. Cancer. Or the skin condition Michael Jackson had. Just bringing up Google a sec..

Aha, vitiligo. If a character say, starts with vitiligo, maybe a longtime goal for them could be to even out their skin through medical/surgery means or whatever else.
