TV and you
Yay, TV shows

NLM and in-game TV have always been a big focus for me.  Johnny's NLM code has been around for awhile and it's amazing.  Only it wasn't getting utilized as much as it could be.

Let me break down how TV's work.  When you are in a room with an ambient TV (ie most rooms) the TV is only tuned to channel 1.  It cannot be changed.  That's the main channel.  Large stories, news, and other stuff are shown on that channel, but mainly it's just advertisements.

If you have a real TV.. IE: a television, security monitor, or wall screen, you have the ability to CHANGE CHANNELS.  turn wall to 500, would change a wall screen to channel 500.

Some of you may notice that when you 'look tv' in a room with an ambient TV you see something like this:

Yet another promotional message. A banner scrolls at the bottom of the screen that reads (500)  (78)  (666).

This has been changed to something like this:

Yet another promotional message. A banner scrolls at the bottom of the screen that reads 'Check out our programs broadcasting on the following channels:  Blake Forrestor Live! (500) The Juicy Vee Show! (78) Death Ball Weekly (666)'

Those numbers are the channels where programs are currently running.  They always have been.  Only it wasn't all that clear what those numbers were.  (I didn't even realize it lolz).  So, now it's more descriptive and shows the name of the program playing as well.

Shows mostly repeat over and over, until someone at NLM changes them.  However, some of this is done automatically.

Death Ball.  It's something I have been working on for awhile, and an Idea that was created by one of our players.  The Death Ball show repeats over and over all week long but then, once a week, is automatically updated and changed.

So.. you can watch it, and you can hope your team wins.  And you can place bets.  Right now, there is not support for placing bets with a bookie, but a PLAYER could take over the roll of bookie and start taking bets (hint fucking hint).

Check out the deathball channel and get into the game.  Maybe make some money taking bets?

As we get more shows, we'll have more channels.  It's something for you guys to do when you are out, or watch when your having a drink.  And if nothing else is going on, it's a good time killer.

I would like to request that cube's have tv's please. With changeable channels.

Even the most basic, cheapest motels of today have TV's even if w/o cable they can pick up /something./  When we 'look tv' in cubes we see the message about commercials, and the shows running on various channels, but there's no way to switch to them. At least not that I've found.

I understand why some TV's need to be bought, with the ability to scan in camera's and surveilance equipment and such. But can we please get basic TV functionality into cubes? :D

You don't get the point of a world covered in television you can't control? It's what the corporations want you to hear. Their commericals. Nothing more.

If there is something the corporations want you to hear (via the heads at NLM), they will put it on TV.

Do not proceed to think for yourselves, the Corporate Council assures you that they are doing everything in your best interest.

Das Krupp Super Sluts, anyone?
