The journey will be roughly two weeks depending on the time I spend in the saddle daily. Maybe a day or so less. I'm going to aim for 150 kms a day, though it will be tough. I've done 80 kms in three hours and felt fine the next day. I am going to ask my old work place (a bicycle shop) to sponsor me some and any gear that can help as I have no money myself and I am currently jobless. I will also be resting and sleeping at public places. I'm still deciding if I should bring my phone.
Inventory:
2x tubes
Emergency pump
Puncture patch kit
tyre lever
lube
Sunscreen
toothbrush + toothpaste
Map
Personal gear:
Lyrca padded shorts (needed)
Helmet
Long sleeved cycling jersey (needed)
2 pairs of socks
If I get the much needed lyrca shorts I won't need underwear since I'll go commando for comfortability sake.
I'll need to take money for food. A banana every hour, a cereal bar and a bottle of water every hour to replenish myself should be sufficient.
I am going to do this April sometime. Gives me some time to train and get some gear and funds sorted. My route is unplanned still and I will need to get advice on one that's safe.
I am confident in myself, and a friend might accompany me. Otherwise I will do it alone and it will be life changing at the least since I'm only a 19 year old. My question is, what do I need/what am I overlooking? My gear list, does it lack anything? Keep in mind those things need to mostly fit into a bicycle bag below my seat. Have any of you ever done something similar? What would you advise me eat and drink to keep my calories at the 60 target every hour so I don't burn myself out?
Thanks!
