Event Times
Player Timezones and In Game Events

So, I just wanted to make a quick post either for awareness or for discussion. But I noticed that a lot of in game events are at 6pm server time. This sort of timing makes it incredibly difficult for Europeans like myself or others to attend the event, sometimes impossible. For someone who's UTC, 6pm translates to around 2am for me, which means the event can go on until 6am in the morning, which is a little rough.

Again, just looking to hopefully make some people aware that perhaps rolling events back a couple of hours makes it far more manageable for Europeans to show up, as I'm aware that I'm far from the only European player.

I agree that if you're going to host something, you may wish to consider doing so towards the mid-day on a weekend (so that people can actually attend), given Europeans, especially those further east, can have quite the difference in time. I myself am about 10 hours ahead of Withmore's time.
We also have players in even farther east in the Australian/New Zealand/China/Indonesia timezone, though.

Did you know 6PM Withmore time (which is the west coast of the US) is 11AM in Australia?

And that 12-3PM west coast time is 5-8AM in those areas?

It's hard to figure out something for everyone. We have US players who can only do mornings/early afternoons too, some who can only do evenings/nights. We have people all across the world.

It's a lot of balancing to try to find the right time to do something, but my best suggestion is if you want an event in a time that works for you - work with people ICly so your character can try to plan an event of their own or maybe see if others will help plan an event as well around times which work for you.

I think this is just a result of a lot of the players driving events being in these time zones. To Crashdown's point, be the change you want to see. Try to get a job bartending at a venue or become a musician/event-thrower, and schedule events in your time zone.

Most of the time these things appear far more organized than they are. The level of coordination required ICly when no OOC discussion is permitted between multiple parties can be a serious struggle and is only increased exponentially when GM help is required.

11 am on a weekend is pretty manageable. 3am events (which is 6pm server for me)? It's pretty much guaranteed that I'll miss those. I very much understand the appeal to host them at what is some version of 'daytime or evening' for pretty much everyone who plays, vs the middle of the night for a significant portion of players.
I have always found this interesting. I lived in Europe for a while and noticed the events being at challenging times as well. So I started having events at my times and while they didn't get as many PCs attending, they did get some and I'm betting they appreciated it. Also, keep in mind that Sindome has been played with a tiny player base before. So even if your events and circle ends up being smaller than others, I bet you all can still have some awesome role play!

Not saying that people shouldn't consider time zone and maybe change things up now and then to make it easier for different people to partake. I think it's great when people do that. I just wouldn't depend on it. Everyone has limited playing time though it can vary wildly. And it's okay to not make it to any given 'event'. No mater what anyone says!

I've also had some success with spontaneous events. It's hit and miss for sure but at any given time there's half a dozen people who would probably love to get in on something if they hear about it. Half the things my characters attend just happen to be going on when I'm playing. So feel free to just make something happen on the spot! I've seen crowds turn out for spars, brawls, mention of bombs, free drinks, new strippers, cries of thief. All kinds of things!

Throw in the fact that an event might have to revolve around a single or a couple PCs who have their own unique restrictions, and things get messy. Everyone who hosts a large scale goes through the anxieties of trying to pick the perfect time, but there isn't one, and some understanding is owed to those attempting to do so.
