Wikipedia
Stop using it

Your character shouldn't know everything about every topic that happens on SIC. It's very, very obvious when you've pulled up a wiki article about a subject. Especially when you do it once a week. Stop it, get some help.

Funnest times I have in Withmore is playing an idiot, making mistakes, not knowing shit so people then have to explain it like they're talking to a alien, and failing. I recommend it to all. And OP is right, we can tell when you're pulling up shit from wiki and it's even worse when you say 'oh I griddled it'... but we all know you're in your cube siccing and can't afford a quick term...

I'm 50/50 on this. I would consider your character's intelligence when doing this, and for those opposed, consider that quickterms offer instant access to the internet just like a cell phone.

People do this in real life and the tech provides the means to do it ICly. Is it still annoying? Yes. So call them out in character, I say.

Dune features a really neat concept of the 'mentat' a biological super computer with inherent access to a wealth of data. I think if we limited the people who treated wikipedia and the @lore wikis like inherent knowledge to those with cyber brains it would make more sense.

Otherwise, I agree this is one of many social commentaries in the game and most notably SIC that detracts from immersion greatly.

Ultimately though? I think it's really up to us to collaborate as a community and lead by example in this regard. Compelling individuals with meaningful RP tend to want to RP with each other. If your RP is less compelling for various reasons, you find yourself a bit isolated.

BGBB Etiquette Reminder: Please take a moment when starting a new thread to think about how this post title will look when it shows up as a notification on the MOO, or in search results when someone searches the page. A good rule of thumb is if your title is just one word, it could probably be more clear. We want people to be able to identify what a topic is about as easily as possible.
