Withmore Fire Departement

How about giving WCS some extra work?

They are often around when fires break out and they repair the aftermath. So why not give them fire extinguishers and firefoam grenades?

For once I agree with BRuhlicious, and would like to see this type of work.

It wouldn't need to replace the 911 system, but could complement it or be used in its stead when the right people are around.

Honestly I would greatly prefer that to the 911 system. To my knowledge, that system will only work effectively if you are in the exact location of where the fire is. I don't think I need to tell you that standing in a fire just so you can call 911 is a bad idea.
I also agree with Emily but it would be cool to have them as an IC job. The 911 can be used when none are around or active.
The somewhat recently shuttered WCS Maintenance would be a pretty good fit, and firefighting (if there was some spontaneous fire starting code) could be a natural counterpart/functional copy to sewer cleaning, and would finally give Maintenance a trackable job mechanism.

Bonus points if they have a financial incentive to start fires themselves.

Honestly, I thought WCS already acted as a fire department.
This would be a great idea if they had some way of dealing with fire proper. It would open up some more work and space for WCS (people love WCS) and it would make a bit more sense than the 911 system we have right now.
I don't think it strictly requires new tools/items to implement per se, but if the job did exist and there was a little further dev/builder time available, two simple things that would likely really help the QoL would be:

1) A duplicated and renamed shovel (call it a halligan bar or whatever) that lets someone use the extinguish verb (maybe with a bonus) when a fire is at it's largest size.

2) Fabric material that costs something like 1500-4500c a bolt, has no appearance scores, but is flagged as fireproof (in terms of the clothing burning, not the character).

In consideration of fireproof gear, that gets tailored, why not also have some generic fire gear? Turnout/bunker gear, SCBA equipment (Face mask and air tank) that could absolutely be repurposed in other ways (I have used my SCBA in a pool before after falling through its awning)

It allows people to possibly repurpose and use their company gear for personal advantage, or even medical people to get some access to air protection when Hazmat helmets do not exist, and they dont wanna slunk around some xo5.

I'd 100% love if we had that. Considering how firefighter gear in a cyberpunk setting ends up as ganger equipment too depending on what books you're reading. Same with the halligan tool, it'd be an interesting piece of equipment that works as another melee weapon that's actually a tool.

Plus, firefighters are hot.

It is extremely cyberpunk to have a gang of ex firemen using halligans to beat people for protection money and firebomb places, walking in in their gear in the chaos....
I guess what you could do (if we were really going all out) is have all fires deal very heavy fatigue damage to everyone in the room to simulate smoke inhalation, reduced by 50% if a character's outfit passes an air-tight check and reduced by a 100% if they have a breathing apparatus.

Dealing extremely high fatigue damage would also give a reason for characters to be rescued by others, while still having the fire be not actually all that lethal in practice.

That also seems to allow for actual response time, too. Fatigue is a great approach to this, rather than dealing outright HP damage
I don't have an opinion on this, but enjoy this AI interpretation of a fireman in a cyberpunk setting.

It's decided then.

Staff, democracy has spoken.

Give us the WFD.
