Help for 'suicide'

There are many, many ways a character can die in Sindome. Most of the time, neither you nor your character wants to happen, but sometimes it's something the player DOES want to happen. Sometimes it's something the character might think they want to happen.

Player intention:
In Sindome, you are responsible for your character's life and maybe permanent death too. This section of the helpfile is written to address the situation where a player wants to get an old character they don't want to play anymore out of the way so they can roll a new one through character generation.

Admins understand that this happens. But because it is so easy to kill yourself ICly, admins don't get involved or intervene to make permanent death come to your old, unwanted character. It just isn't necessary.

Falling, fighting, exploring, shit-talking, provoking, stealing, walking the wrong way, drowning, these and more are all ways to cause a death (or, if necessary, two of them) so that your old character winds up permed.

"Go Light" and Happy Re-Roll!

Character intention:
In real life, suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. In Sindome, the availability of clones makes the "solution" APPEAR to be a nice, convenient way to escape the problem without the permanent result.

But the human organism didn't evolve to act this way. While the conscious mind might regard fatal self-harm as desirable, the unconscious human brain still rules. The self preservation instinct is extremely strong and the IC motivation to suicide MUST be justified.

To quote from http://sindo.me/m67N6M - the situation of "players deciding that their characters would suicide, for some benefit to their next clone" is METAGAMING.

That's right. Metagaming. So, your character's motivations to kill theirself or to allow theirself to be killed by someone else had better rise to the level of motivation which would be required if permadeath was anticipated. The convenience of clones is an intellectual point, not something which admins regard as having the power to overrule the human preservation instinct.

If you go through with having your character attempt an IC suicide, be prepared for consequences be as bad as permadeath or worse, and, make sure your justification for going through with it is explained to GMs via a @note.

"Go Clone" and suck up whatever result your character gets for trying this.

Suicide Booth:
Due to the increased number of new immigrants to the Dome committing suicide within the Mix soon after their entry. It was decided that a 'Suicide Booth' should be installed for members of Withmore, both old and new, to end their lives in a range of creative ways.

Now if you are fed up with how your life is going, you can kill yourself via a choice of five different methods. Upon selecting your chosen method, your clone will be executed and you will die. If you have a new clone available then you will be sent to Genetek to clone, otherwise you will go into the light to continue on your journey with a new character.

Any questions or queries on how the Suicide Booth works, should be found out In Character. Happy dying!
