Help for 'suicide'

SUICIDE

There are many, many ways a character can die in Sindome. Most of the time, neither you nor your character wants to happen, but sometimes it's something the player DOES want to happen. Sometimes it's something the character might think they want to happen.

PLAYER INTENTION

In Sindome, you are responsible for your character's life and maybe permanent death too. This section of the helpfile is written to address the situation where a player wants to get an old character they don't want to play anymore out of the way so they can roll a new one through character generation.

Admins understand that this happens. But because it is so easy to kill yourself ICly, admins don't get involved or intervene to make permanent death come to your old, unwanted character. It just isn't necessary.

Falling, fighting, exploring, shit-talking, provoking, stealing, walking the wrong way, drowning, these and more are all ways to cause a death (or, if necessary, two of them) so that your old character winds up permed.

"Go Light" and Happy Re-Roll!

CHARACTER INTENTION

In real life, suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. In Sindome, the availability of clones makes the "solution" APPEAR to be a nice, convenient way to escape the problem without the permanent result.

But the human organism didn't evolve to act this way. While the conscious mind might regard fatal self-harm as desirable, the unconscious human brain still rules. The self preservation instinct is extremely strong and the IC motivation to suicide MUST be justified.

If you roleplay your character spiraling, due to unforeseen or uncontrollable IC actions/consequences, and that roleplay leads your character to want to die-- that is an acceptable outcome. However the keyword here is roleplay.

It is not acceptable for you the player to decide to kill your character simply because their IC circumstance is hard, or you want to 'get back to normal'. That is RP avoidance, and it invalidates the roleplay that led to whatever IC situation your character is in. If you go down this path of treating your characters life as expendable and the roleplay they have been given as optional, you can expect an XHELP from staff, and possibly continued repercussions for whatever IC actions you sought to avoid by cloning out.

SUICIDE BOOTH

Due to the increased number of new immigrants to the Dome committing suicide within the Mix soon after their entry. It was decided that a 'Suicide Booth' should be installed for members of Withmore, both old and new, to end their lives in a range of creative ways.

Now if you are fed up with how your life is going, you can kill yourself via a choice of five different methods. Upon selecting your chosen method, your clone will be executed and you will die. If you have a new clone available then you will be sent to Genetek to clone, otherwise you will go into the light to continue on your journey with a new character.

Any questions or queries on how the Suicide Booth works, should be found out In Character. Happy dying!
