The North Pacific Economic Commonwealth extends from Alaska south through former Canadian territory to the Free State of Northern California. It also borders the remaining Canadian state, the United States, the Holy Mormon Protectorate, and the Free State of Nevada.
Its origins lie in the fragmentation of Canada following the disasters of 2004. Corporate assistance with reconstruction, offered in exchange for Western Canadian resource rights, accompanied the division into the Free Republic of Western Canada and the Commonwealth of Canada.
In 2055, the costs of rebuilding the American eastern seaboard and the Miami Sea Dome project contributed to another United States economic collapse. Oregon and Washington broke away from the United States and joined the Free Republic of Western Canada. The resulting economic area took the name North Pacific Economic Commonwealth.
