The Free State of Nevada is home to Las Vegas, the Mega Casino. Its western neighbors are territory controlled by Withmore City and the Free State of Northern California. The North Pacific Economic Commonwealth lies to the north, the Holy Mormon Protectorate to the northeast, and the United States to the east.
In 2058, the United States sold Nevada to a group of large entertainment transnationals, the largest of them the newly formed New Light Media. The buyers renamed it the Free State of Nevada and promoted it as the world's entertainment capital.
The sale and the new state's promotion of vice provoked a religious separatist movement in neighboring Utah in 2059. That movement led to the formation of the Holy Mormon Protectorate, one of Nevada's present neighbors.
