The Yakuza is an incorporated crime syndicate that has grown from a Japanese criminal organization into a large international and multicultural corporate enterprise. It maintains legitimate business interests and an official council seat. Alongside this public standing, it is alleged to control criminal activities in Withmore City and maintain a grip on Little Kyoto.
In Little Kyoto, the Sinners dominate much of the street-level territory, while the Yakuza is said to exert influence over business and crime behind the scenes. It is one of the major syndicates with a foothold in Red, where agreements over business and territory can shift rapidly.
The Yakuza formally incorporated as the Yakuza Syndicate in January 2024, becoming the first criminal organization in Japan to do so and the second worldwide. A wider wave of criminal incorporation followed.
In 2052, military moves against the Chinese Triad Syndicate sparked a short, devastating conflict across more than a dozen Chinese provinces. The episode forms part of the Yakuza's international history; its interests and rivalries extend well beyond Withmore's neighborhoods.
