MAC MOOing

I can't be the only person in the universe who MOO's on a MAC. Here is the client I use:

Mud-Haven which is downloadable as a free trial at - http://members.home.net/janus22/MudHaven/index.html

It is a pay software, which I happen to think well worth the cost concidering it doesn't crash much like many of the free ones. But if you are on a budget there free ones:

* MudDweller, a freeware Mud client
*MacMUSH, a freeware MOO/MUSH client
*Rapscallion (68k), a new freeware Mud client
*Rapscallion (PPC), same but PowerPC version

There are other pay ones out there too. But frankly, Mud-Haven has a really nice interface, good trigers/aliases/variables control, it's ANSI compatable. and only $15 I belive.

Oh, another tip for everyone on any platform:

Worlds Best search Engine: www.google.com
It is exceptionally good and fast, usually gives you what you are looking for in the first 5 sites.

Would this be the time to remind you that triggers and aliases are no-no shortcuts on Sindome?

Take your Mud toys elsewhere.

*points to the in-game 'Macros' provided by johnny's code*
Yes…  They're in-game so that everyone has an equal footing, client macros/aliases/triggers/etc... are still frowned upon.
Is there really that much of a difference? Besides the fact you can alter one while offline? Ticks and Timers are retarded for one, and the only alias/trigger combos i use are for increased RP… for example.

In the desc of my sunglasses, it says that i put em away, so i have a trigger set up so it puts them away... its all smooth like... *grins and runs to pantz someone*

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, you have a mac.
Yes, there is a lot more that you can do with client-side stuff than with the in-game macros. Mostly the ability to trigger based on something that comes from the moo, or from a timer, then also because you can use variables, do math, etc… etc... etc...

There's a game I used to play called Federation. It had tons of commands for trading comodities across the galaxy. I was a planet owner, and to run most efficiently, you should export all your surplusses, and import all your deficits... well, even with basic macros that allow me to buy a shipload of stuff (600 tons, 25 tons at a time, plus 'adding' the bays together), then get home and sell it, would take 4 hours a day.

I wrote a suite of macros/triggers/aliases/buttons/etc... in ZMud that would allow me to move to a preset location (inside my craft, sitting on the landing pad of my planet). I then hit a toggle, enabling auto-trading, and clicked the 'go' button. It would then check my planetary displays, finding the first surplus greater than 4,800tn. It would then build all of the bays, taking them from my exchange to my warehouse. Then, it would check the prices in my duchy, selling to the highest buyer, switching if the bottom fell out of the market on that planet. If there were no planets buying higher than I bought it from my planet, it would check planets outside my duchy (but only ones I had on a list, because it had to know how to get there). It would run through all my surplusses, then it would go to buying inputs, which is a fairly similar process.

  • It would do this for 52 commodities.
  • It was smart enough to know which ones to buy, and which ones to sell.
  • It was smart enough to follow the 1 rule of Fed… buy low, sell high.
  • It was smart enough to move me from my ship, to my bar, and buy a round of drinks, then move me to my private quarters, when it was done (after 3 hours or so).
    [\list]

That type of thing is why client-side macros aren't allowed, and you *definitely* can't do any of that with the features Johnny wrote.

Now do you understand the difference?

Oh, I think that when I calculated about how many typed commands this process took, it was between 2,000 and 8,000, depending on my stock levels.

What the fucking hell?!  I just figured out how to set up a simple RP trigger… and you are talking about all these variables and shit? Dude.... thats not even right...
Lucifer graduates to San-sayji level 'Chatsubi'!
*grins wickedly*
Welcome to hell, I have attained ULTIMATE PERFECTION… wait... nevermind, someone already did that and I disentigrated em... duh...

Right, anyways.....

And by the way Johnny, its SAY-JIN  Super Sai-Jin.

Actually I was thinking about this a while ago…..

I use a version of Tintin, Wintin, for a MUD that I play every now and again and have set up some kick ass scripts for it, it will let me play, ALMOST with out being there.  The scripts allow me to sleep, eat, wake up, auto stab(I'm a thief) auto circlestab, auto kick, auto bash. I have also set up others to allow other people to take over my char, like casting, and forcing me to sleep and all that jazz.....

Then I got to thinking 'How in the hell would something like that work for SD?' So I sat down and started playing around with zMUD, and after about 10 minutes of racking my brian trying to figure out good triggers, I came to one conclusion......YOU DON'T!!!:)

In theory, you could come up with some ok scripts, but nothing that would serve a huge purpose and be completely useful. Another thing, scripting for a game like SlothMud, is no real biggie...you make some actions, maybe a few variables and you're set. You don't have to be there but who cares? all you have to do is go around and hack and slash shit.  In an RTS/RPG like SD, I don't really see how benificial or FUN.

Although now that I think about it, I wouldn't mind putting the programming skills that I have learned thus far by writing some scripts for SD, just to see if it's possible to come up with something good. Hmmm, but that would mean I would have to fuck with zmud.....I HATE ZMUD!!!
