And the seconds keep ticking away ...

Ok.

I spoke with Johnny about this, and he asked me to post the problem here.

When I run a who list (and sometimes just walking down the street) I get the following …

Notice the odd text [022103035723pm;31m in the Torres listing?

This has happened to me on …

OS
Win2k and WinXP

Client
Pueblo, SimpleMu (each running on both OSes)

Proxies involved, yes at work, no at home.

1) Has this happened to you before?
2) If so, please post in reply, with your OS, client and whether or not there is a proxy/firewall involved.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be cauing this?

Oh, yeah.

And the number seems to increment by one, for every one second that elapses .. hence the title of the topic …

It's friday, it's almost quitting time, it's been a rough week.

Leave me alone ... ;)

i've never seen that sort of thing before.

but i'll say that i'm using pueblo on both computers
win98 on one
win2kServer on the other

no firewall… no nothin' with either.

but what an odd little random bit 'o numbers.

pst.... it's in the Moses listing.. Torres looks fine.

Sorry bout that. Originally, Max had some text that actually was a who listing where the problem was shown with 'torres'. Unfortunately, it didn't look like a who list depending what font was used. So, I replaced it with an image, so it would look the same to everyone and be in color for context. I failed to edit Torres to Moses though.

.feel vindicated

From that screenshot, the | immediately after the odd code should be red, does it always show up as white and does the occurance cause other problems with text that should be coloured? I could be wrong on this because it's a long time since I looked at them, but the parts of the 'odd' string either side of the large number remind me of the ANSI sequences from Damon's ANSI mod and certainly a fragmenting an ANSI code would cause similar 'odd' text…

That said, I can't see what would cause an ANSI code to become fragmented in the middle of a line like that... First thing I'd check is your line wrapping, both MOO and client side. Try all combinations of one off, one on or both on/off. Try disabling any page length settings also, if you use them, even if they're not causing the problem here they can cause nightmares with certain MOO activities.

Dunno if that helps any... numbers look like a time() call, but god only knows why it seems to be effecting you and no-one else...

I've played around with the line wrapping and all that, to no avail. I have noticed a change in the situation, however.

I recently changed DSL providers (Thank you DIRECTV DSL for just up and going out of business) and have -not- had the problem at home since, regardless of the client.

I've tried, vmoo, SimpleMu, Pueblo and putty at home and have not been able to re-create this since changing DSL providers.

Further testing from work *look around innocently and whistle* shows that at least both Pueblo and SimpleMu will cause the issue when connected through one firewall/proxy, but -not- the other. They are from different vendors.

I've been using putty though the firewall/proxy that does not seem to cause the problem with SimpleMu and Pueblo and have had no problems.

As for the color questions, I can't say for sure, but 'think' it's always been white.

If there were any problems with text that should be (or shouldn't be for that matter) colored, I haven't noticed.

Based on the testing so far, I'm inclined to think it's a firewall/proxy issue with the one system, and something FUBARd at DIRECTV DSL when I was at home.
