Here's A Bitch.

O.K. so the game economy is… on and off (at best) and I've observed one or two ways (all be them minor)  we can change that.  First of all drugs.  Lately most charcters see drugs as food, you know you should use em' but you don't.   With the exception of V-202(and maybe another combat drug or two) I've seen one person do one drug in well over six months, ok wait scratch that two, but one was just RP'ing being high and I didn't auctially see them do any drugs so 1.5 maybe.(and now that I think about it the first one wasn't doing the drug to be doing the drug they were trying to tell me something ICly with it and I just didn't notice to later)  So my point is if there's a couple people standing around doing shit, rp getting some drugs and getting a little fucked up or something... who knows what it could lead to.   (and yes I'm guilty of that one too)    get high, shit it's legal for god's sake.

Ok now this is kinda a dual bitch, first of all descriptions... I've seen some really poor ones.  ok so mine doesn't look like it jumped off of the pages of some gibson novel, but it also doesn't include "he sneers at you when you look at him" (very gay by the way) or "he makes you think of <whatever>" (no you don't)  or "his eyes catch the light as you look at them" or whatever, I could go on, and on about crappy @descriptions I've seen in the past few months.  Now admittedly alot of them are noobs, I said alot, but definately not all.  police yourself for god's sake. make your @describe describe the way you look, save the gleaming, and sneering, and tossing down a cigarette butt (yes I even saw that one) for your RP... Please, I beg of you!!!!  maybe even add something to charcter creation that talks about a good description, and make people read what they should not have in their description.   Which leads me to my final point:  tattoos, so many pc's have tattoos that are part of their @descriptions, and not real tattoos, Johnny spent all this time creating a system of tattooing, and cool tattoo guns, and a new job for pc's at the same time, but do people ever use it, no, well rarely, instead of spending your precious chyen on a -real- tattoo and supporting player run business, you'd rather @describe it..... well you suck.   (as for noobs with this well that's a slightly different situation but now you know, but once again this is something that applies to noobs and experienced chars. alike)

fuck's sake don't be afraid to throw around some chyen, help a noob, support player run business, cut people some deals on gear.... but mostly support player run business.

And if your one of the ones wondering where the chyen is get a skill, I've been seeking at least two seperate services recently, and haven't been able to find someone's who's good at either.(I'd mention them, but I don't know where the IC boundry would be on that one)   hell I'm half tempted to do them both myself, but there's not enough UE in the whole world, cause my charcter's already trying to do like who the fuck knows how many other things... admittedly with limited success, but I'm starting to get off track here, so I'm gonna end my rant here.

I've witnessed many players who have the money to spend, and simply save it up for some unknown reason. I've been guilty of this myself. Several players -should- be pushing more money around. Corpie players shouldn't be doing so much for themselves; use the red scum for what they are really good for! *eyes…*

I had more to say, but I'm in English class and lost my train of thought.

It's definitly important to support player run biz.  It's also important and it generates RP /not/ to do things for yourself.      The whole tattoo thing.. I dunno.. I've never met a PC tattoist.  Never met an NPC tattooist either.  I know the system is there, but haven't seen anyone taking advantage of it.
AFAIK, there is a policy about metaphysical aspects in player @descs, so if you see one, feel free to xhelp it =P

Lillith, just because you don't know -what- they're saving up for, doesn't mean that they don't have a reason.

But yes, help out the noobs, help out the player biz (Or if you actually want some good RP, compete with it).

And there was a PC tattooist (yay, spelling) a long time ago, but I haven't seen one since.  I wonder if he's coming back or not…;)

Yay for the Artistry skill! I hope people are using it like they should.

Here is a link discussing metaposing in descriptions, and why it's bad.

I have instructed the GMs to make a point of supporting player run businesses, because I know we havn't done a perfect job in the past. The players have done an even less impressive job, though.

Two of our 'rich' players do a wonderful job of RPing their status… taking taxi's wherever they go, hanging out at the ritsy places, and generally living like the good life. The rest I want to smack upside the head and say GET IN CHARACTER! You don't NEED 200k sitting in your account. Go generate some RP with it, damnit! If these people don't get the clue and use the power they've ammased they're going to suffer the IC concequences. You know who you are, and you've been warned.

Or, instead of making the admins have to jump at every bad description you see, you could take the time to give the n00bs or whoever some suggestion on how to improve their description.
I realize that some people are saving up for important things. I was at one point. But now that I'm not, I spend the money like I should. What I was refering to was people hoarding money just because they don't want to spend it.  If you have the money, and have no reason to be saving it, then why save it? Get the money circulating like it should be.
Thats definitly true.  Spending money is a great way to generate RP, for yourself, and for newbies that don't have a steady job aside from SHI or Couriering.  That stuffs boring!   Give them something interesting and productive to do for some chy.
I agree with all of the above, but just like in the hoarding topic, I still believe themely-ness and IC reasoning should, and Admin feel free to correct me on this, be put ahead of some mantra of 'money circulating like it should'

I'm not making some personal argument, my character's bank account isn't exactly anything to be proud of.

But, it's very silly to instill little cyberpunk thoughts like "Greed is good" in our minds, screaming at us to RP in a more themely manner, and then turn around and say, "hey, why do you have all that money? Use it to generate RP!"

While I know there are exceptions (Mixers with a lot, and truly not doing anything with it, same with Corpies), but regardless, treating IC as if we would IRL, having a shitload of money is essentially a goal. Why do you RP biz? To get money! Hardly anyone IRL sits around going "Hey, I wonder if I can go use this money to make someone's day more interesting, instead of watching it pile up and compound interest."

Especially for those in the Mix, where anyone can tell you chyen can disappear as quickly as it comes in. Sudden unfortunate incident, and you need a new gun, a new car, a clone, all of the above all at once…you get my drift.

Didn't mean to rant there, and I know that this topic is geared towards those who truly do nothing with their money, but shit, if I RP and work for some cash, or even just kill some poor guy to take his, if I want to put it in the bank and watch it build up, whether I have a clear goal in mind on how to use it or not, that's most definitely my perogative, and is perfectly themely and IC. Mixer or otherwise.

And you can give them all the tips you want in @newbie or whatever else, but it's still probably going to happen. Either just quickly tell them OOC'ly what the issue is, or xhelp an Admin about it, and it'll actually get resolved.

It's not so much "Hey I can make someone's day more interesting with this money." it more, "Hey, now I can afford that piece to go kill that son of a bitch that was comming onto my girl at the Drome." or "Hey I can afford that MR.Studd so my girl won't be complainin the next time I take her to bed." or "Hey I can pick up some shit with this and make even more on resale." But it seems like people just get what little they can here and there and save it up, few thousand here few thousand there, while never eating (something that bugs the shit out of me…so what if fatigue isn't coded..people still need to eat damnit) Mixers aren't miserly little old people saving there pennys, they should be out there using everything they got till they hit that big score.

Money sitting in the bank does nothing to promote RP unless you like to sit and brag about how much money you have, while for a corpie that could be construed as themely, a mixer would be an idiot to spout of his finacial standing.

Greed is Good isn't meant to give us the impression that we should take every little bit we get and save it up, it's meant to spur us into using it to -make more money- or use it for a specific purpose, killing your enemies, or better yet, convincing someone else to do it for you, or better still, turning someone else into an enemy of your enemy, so when it does go down it's not traceable to you.

Money should be used in game, if your a corpie of course your gonna have more to play with, hence a bigger account..but a mixer who has hardley anything to work with should be using it all in an attempt to gain even more back or at least street credit, which in the Mix should be worth more than chyen.

hmm think this is my first rant-like post..Yay for me!

What if they already have a piece?  What if that sonofabitch is already dead?  And what if you don't have a girlfriend, or aren't into altering your physical appearance in order to please her?  And as far as your last example goes, not everyone is a fixer.   Or well, they think they all are, but everyone CAN'T be.  We need more niches for people to fall into than that.

In other words, all of your examples could very well be un-IC for the vast majority of the population (and also the majority of the player characters in the game).

Its not IC to save?  That's the biggest bullshit I've ever heard.  Money is MONEY.  You know just as much as I do that people want MORE of it ALL THE TIME.  Fuck, its money that runs the economy.  And when people start blowing it all just to do one thing, that's when they eventually blow it and lose it all.  Maybe its IC to do so?  Sure, it can be fun!  But it can also be contrary to your character's nature.

What if the player is saving for something big that you don't know about?  What if he or she is using it to pay people under them?  What if they're saving it for the next big thing that pops out on the market so they can be the first to have it (whatever it is).  Money is a status-issue, too y'know.  And even a Mixer will want to look better and be more well-off than the other Mixers.

That's just the way it is.
