The new @who

Ok so here's my opinions on the new @who.
telling where people are at: not a bad idea, but It doesn't feel right… just because there are people here, or there doesn't mean they aren't in their cubes, or whatever so who really cares (not to mention it's ICinfo a big NO-NO to reveal)*sarcastic, but serious at the same time*.  maybe ok for noobs, but for seasoned players it won't tell them stuff they couldn't have figured out for themselves (unless the only people on are the frady cats who feel the need to *constantly* @invis.) second Where'd the count go? Why?  I know you can infer a little from the location thingy, but the number was better I think. plus how will we ever know if we beat the record!:)
simply put  I like it the old way, some things shouldn't change.
I just chuckle to myself wondering why they would see the need to do something like this..

Is it a solution to the @invis problem?
Perhaps a shyness to the player base?

Who knows…you should tell us.

It's a toned down version of what some MOOs call @rp… it tells you where people are so you can join them. (If there are more, than say, two or three people at a given location.)

Obviously, the staff here does not like such tools because they are too OOC... so this was an attempt at doing it.

I'd even go as far as to put in something like: A few people are at the Drome... specialized, preset locations that admin set as being there. Drome is always a hotspot, I constantly go there to see if anyone is there. IF no one is, I can skip that and go off to do something else.

I dunno.

If people aren't knowledgable enough to check the hotspots 'in the mix' or on 'topside', fuck'm. I was noticing a spike in the complaints about not being able to find RP and at the same time that there was often more corpies on then mixers and I wanted to find a way to express 'where the action is' without giving away IC information.

You'll notice the old format returns when there are just a few players on. I did this because at those numbers, the likelihood of someone being able to tell who is where goes up.

And Jotun, this -was- for the seasoned players. They're the ones with the closed minds who logon and then off when they don't see any action.

With a smallish player base,if the game world expands or the small player base stretches out, it becomes more important to keep you all connected. And since we're a bunch of IC/OOC nazis around here, we needed to do it in a way that is pretty damn hard to abuse.

The more times I look at it, the less I like it.

I seriously doubt that just because "a few people are in the mix" that people are going to log in, then out less.  the thing is when I'd log in and see 18 on, or 15 on, or whatever that's what would make me go hey, I'd be a dumbass to log out now.  whereas if I log in and see "some are in the mix, and some are topside" I say to myself- well no shit, suprize, su-fuckin-pize.-  in all reality it doesn't tell you shit you can't infer anyway.

dunno just my 2 cents…again *shrug*

oh yeah I almost forgot SCREW YOU FUCKIN' INVISERS your weak, and scared, for god's sake the @who is ooc anyway.  (sorry, just had to get that off my chest... again I think):)

the only possible justification I can possibly see for using @invis is if your playing a charcter who's supposedly dead, and don't want people to know your really alive. (and I can think of what, like 2 charcters, no 1 that that would apply to.  no I take that back 2)

Maybe they just don't want rude people IMing them when it's known they're on SD but mysteriously not on their IM (cause they're invis there too).
whereas if I log in and see "some are in the mix, and some are topside" I say to myself- well no shit, suprize, su-fuckin-pize.-  in all reality it doesn't tell you shit you can't infer anyway.

Yes it does. I don't know how you arrived at that conclusion.

If 15 people are on, and the majority of them are playing Riot Gear on Green, you know not to bother looking for the action on red. Regardless of someone's @invis state.

Why, in this senario, is '15 people are on' better?

I'm really missing something here…

I like the new @who, personally. I'd rather see 'A few are in the mix and many are topside' ;) than to see 10 people online. It's easier to check out if I have time to sit down and RP for the hour before I have to run off and get things done, or if I should just log off and get all the crap I have to get done, done.

Just my thoughts.

I have a very very very good reason to be @invis, thank you, and it has nothing to do with wanting people to think I am dead.
What, are you masturbating or something? Bout the only other reason I could think of to be @invis
You go @invis when you masturbate, huh?

Well….......... That certianly explains a few things about a few players.

thank you Hirononbu!

I stay visible, almost all the time.  I think it would be better if people were mostly visible, unless they had a good reason.  But I agree with people being invis i guess.  It's OOC yeah.. but I mean.. that doesn't me its not in your head.  I have to stop myself from calling someone that I just called 2 minutes before when they weren't on the @who, and then happen to see was on the @who now.. I mean, it can be abused ICly.
Personally I don't understand why people have problems with @invis.  Oh well.

Anyway, I don't really like the new @who that much from what I've seen of it.  Its neat and all that, but it seems that it too could be easily abused in several different ways.

Thpt.

Discuss the abuses that you guys think are possible. Not talking about them is just sticking your head in the sand.
Here's one…

Part of it is IC information, but its common knowledge and is the whole reason that its abusable. Anyways... if someone is banished... there is a reasonable idea of how many people have been banished from the city.

Anytime that the phrase: 'someone is outside the city' pops up. I know its one of two people.

Something like that.

As for @invis...

As I said before, I have a very good reason for being @invis. And me telling you why, would ruin the whole reason. So I keep it as it is. As for the insults, thanks... much appreciated.

With the new @who, I don't see the point in a player list anymore at all. The 'some are here, a few are there' is enough. All you need is to add 'there are -this many- unidle admin on, and you have all you need as far as @who goes.

As for me, I'm not @invis because I'm 'scared', as anyone can see me on the IC who. I'm @invis to hide my idle time, because people like to assume I'm idle, and that makes them think they can do anything ICly, thus, they're easier to catch unawares.

Yup, it's OOC psychological warfare. But it only works on people who guide their IC actions by OOC 'info'. Which means they have it comin' :P

You do now?  Really?  Only two people eh?  Interesting.  But what's in really matter if you know that one of those two people are on, since they are out there and, apparently, are the only people out there, so what's it matter?

How is knowing that someone who is connected is outside the city abusable? They can be @invis which removes them from the displayed list. How are you going to figure out who exactly it is and how are you going to abuse the information?
