Big Idea

Right. When a friend and I were playing/messing about on CS (CyberSphere) he had the thought that if the two collaborated the end result would be staggering. And well, it would.
I had thought it was funny before how no where in these boards that have I seen (I may have missed it, but I have read nearly every post) any reference to CyberSphere and the visa versa. The MOO's are identical in base code structure, well they are both MOO's and have all the @quit, @who and so forth commands. In fact they are strikingly similar, CS has Syndrome, a bar and coffins. Sphere, dome rather similar to me. The only point of my typing that is to illustrate how well a convergence could work. Two great MOO's that are so similar could converge beautifully, unless I am mistaken on a code level this would be easy, and so I'm asking admins and players to give there opinion, please both reply as this seems like a cool idea to me. Right…. Im trying to give this some structure, but you may have to pick stuff out from all over the body of the text. The admins here are busy coding away to create such great things as a matrix, more vehicles at some point and so forth. However CS is more established or something, and all of this is basically complete, they have had a matrix for some time, everything big thing is there. It seems like a good idea to just take that code, or that may not seem nice to Kevlar's hard work so combine them. Then all those big projects are suddenly there, and more focus can be put to little touches, in my view the little things that make Sindome better, and gives it its character. Right so CS's established largely coded content (matrix, vehicles etc) and their streets; they have streets as in real life, walking on a side walk on either side, and with junctions consisting of 4 rooms, one for each corner. Sindome could even be a dome within New Carthage, they have a shore, and to have a chrome looking dome suspended above the sea by huge struts would be great, with a tongue like road up to it, and heavy security at that road. Or obviously have either a new city that is a combination of the two or either one. SD however has a far superior and more advanced communication in the form of SIC and poses and speech than CS, especially with the new speech system. SD's clothes system is also much bigger and more developed, with CS not having oremove and owear messages in the same way, and no tease as far as I know, as well as no line break in between bodily and clothing descriptions when one's character is looked at. Sindome seems to even now like to have a focus on the little things, thing's that make RP so detailed and true to life (should look at some of the MUSH's out there, one doesn't even have clothing, you just describe it). SD's descriptions as it is known for are very good, and better than CS's. So where have I got to...CS for structure and code, and big things (scenery, streets, not clothes) and Sindome for all the higher-level stuff, clothes, speech (although that is huge), communication, and poetic/descriptive writing and descriptions (*chuckles*). In my view this would be ace, the combined skill and amount of the two, the best from both to form such a great and detailed world to RP in. SD and CS have opposite pros and cons, and just by converging basically not much actual creation effort needs to be given, it will all be there. Then the people that post small ideas throughout this topic will actually not be pointlessly doing so (is it just me who read the ideas, even thought yeah that's great...and then think but much more important stuff needs to be coded), well they arent pointless at all, especially not if SD and CS converged, but at the present they have very little bearing in my view. Yeah so what do you think? Both MOO's will gain so much, it's win, win, and so will the players. Think about it, a doubled user base, and if just one city is used, or a modified but single one, then the population will be rich and full, like it is described to be in both. The biggest challenge I guess is the actual converge and keeping people happy through the process, but it just seems like a logical thing to do. Well there is a big idea and thanks man (you know) for really coming up with it.
Kev's opinion of this, especially with coding the matrix would be much appreciated as well as obviously Johnny and all the admins, and you, the players.
*takes a breath* *takes a swig of cream soda* Thanks that's it, and excuse any major repetition ^_^
Do a little research. There's a reason for the similarities.  On Sindome, players are prevented from playing "Hack'n'Slash" whereas on CS you can basically do anything you want.  On SD, your character doesn't die as easily and there is more focus on the RP.

The games come from the same thing, it's not just some huge coincidence that they're so similar.

If I'm not incorrect, Sindome was started by people who used to play CS but found it lacking in certain ways.  Someone who plays both could provide more contrast, but I did make a character on CS and check it out a bit.  I think I prefer SD because of the smaller, more interactive and personalized community, as well as the fact that you can easily get in touch with and know the admins face to face.

So, really, putting them back together would completely defeat the purpose of Sindome's existence.  I think they're separate entities out of necessity, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

I'm sure the admins will give a much more detailed explanation when they get to this post.  My understanding of what happened is not entirely clear so I didn't want to go into detail about why people left CS or what the actual point was.

But I'm grateful for this game every day.

Thanks. I thought that might have happened as SD is newer it seems, and more intricate yes, that's what I said is great about it. I have a character right now on CS, hmm I can't fairly say if it is more hack and slash but RP and being IC isn't inforced as much. I guess time will do the same as a collabortive effort, but it could work and should work. But I'm gone as you know….*grins*
Sindome and CyberSphere have a long and myriad relationship that ranges from open hostility to avoidance to loose diplomatic ties. If you rummage about the boards, or do a search for 'CS' or 'Cybershpere' you should have something come up.

We definately are in differant stages of developement. The coders between the MOO's have differant priorities that's for sure. CS is quite a few years older as well. Both have different environments in terms of roleplaying, though having been on both, I stuck with SD because the atmosphere was for the most part more Cyberpunkish and more along the lines of what I was looking for in a game.

We as a MOO are most definately growing, there are some things on the way that will make you players giddy with joy. Things like cybernetics (FINALLY! GO JMAN GO!) and the Matrix (WOO, YAY KEVLAR!) and a bunch of new IC area's to play in.

Has the idea of teaming up with CS been looked at? Yes. It has. Will it work? No. It most likely won't. Differant code structures, mindsets, and histories make them too difficult to link together. Plus, the origins of SD and our crew make it tough to reconcile with CS. An older admin would need to fill you all in on that, it happened like 5 years ago or more.

Thanks Iga. Just thought I would go with a bigger idea. And erm, my bad bye post *runs of screaming, does search for SD scrap file where I spell checked it*

^_^ Iga you are another I will say Good Bye to. Shame it got spoiled by Lucien

Hey, Lucien wasn't the one who'd been spilling OOC details time and time again. It got your characters killed a couple times, not his fault you didn't take the hint. It's unfortunate, but you should have learned from the first warnings the admin gave you about using and saying IC info with the OOC commands. Does it mean I condone the entire mess? Nope. But there was no alternatives open.

It's a tough break, but you left us little choice in the matter when you went about giving OOC details to major plot/IC events between your character and other characters. Take it as a harsh lesson. In fact, everyone can learn from it. Don't use OOC-chat period unless it is to comment on your kids or your mortgage or the weather in your locality. Or to correct typos. :)

Yeah I was a fool.
Yeah Lucien was nasty and cheaty *grins*

It doesn't matter now ^_^

Thanks Iga

All the fights and arguing and differences in game styles and class of players aside, the number one reason why this would never happen…..

In the world history according to Sindome New Carthage (the setting of CS) is under the Pacific Ocean.

*hopes that was a joke*
If they did converge all those arbitary theme aspect would have to change, maybe the structure would be a modified Withmore, or a modified New Carthage. Or anything really
Come on, no opinion on whever it would be a good idea or not? The extra players yet the change…Oh well ^_^
I thought you'd decided to leave Sindome.  Since you'd decided to leave, and are apparently playing CyberSphere, if the two were brought together, you'd be right back here with us, the lovely SD Crew.  You wouldn't want that, would you?  At least that's what you'd said in earlier posts.  I believe this topic has been played out anywho.  Seems the admins have already made their voices clear on the matter.  Could perhaps be an intriguing idea.  But that's all it probably ever will be.  An Idea.  Sorry for any dissappointment.
*chuckles* Cybersphere? No I'm not going to play that. And this is the ideas post, does it matter if all it will be is an idea?
No it doesn't.  What matters is that you keep rambling on about it incessantly.  Its annoying.
….........so negative.
You don't have to read the posts if you don't want to. Oh you seen to have some eye problems there, you may want to see a doctor ^_^
No. Really.

You -are- being annoying.

And your constant strained attempts at appearing intelligent aren't working very well. So please, stop. Thanks.

I dipped into CS because they have a working Matrix/Decking system, full vehicles including flying, and all that other razzle. It wasn't a horrible place, except for the RP. It's simply horrid when it exists. It's almost sad, like a beautiful painting of a piece of carpet. However good it's done, if there's no content…no enjoyment.
It all made me think about how absolutely amazing SD will be once those awesome features get implemented...like Iga said, the Matrix, Cybernetics, new areas, and all the other shit they are coding like obsessed madmen (Not a bad thing). Like Iga said, it made me simply giddy with anxiety.
CS isn't a bad place to check out, but it's not fun to stay. My char was 3 days in, and was killed by a thug for no reason. I told an Admin, and they said, "We can't enforce a standard of RP. " They went on to say that basically, it was IC'ly okay, just because he was a thug.
I mean, honestly.
So trust me, trust me please, CS seems better, seems tempting, but it's just a disappointment.
Right now, with roughly half the player base and 1/2 the content, SD is 10x better as far as RP and general enjoyment than CS is at full capacity.
Imagine SD when the new stuff goes live.
There's the true beauty.
