For the record, I'm still in favor of something like this.

People already get fucking antsy as shit about not getting karma, or wanting karma, and that's purely OOC. Once it starts affecting things IC people are going to try to get it and alter the way they do things just for some meaningless score.
We already have voting for best whatevers at the town hall.
alkaline hates the system and does not award any commendations. alkaline RP's with Ephemeralis, who in this scenario, is addicted to commendations. But Ephermeralis knows from previous RP that alkaline never gives them out because, after the scenes end, no reward is ever gained.
Hippo, on the other hand, gives them out like like free condoms at burning man. Hippo's SIC shows up on the who list. Ephermeralis wants that sweet commendation, and because of an OOC mechanic, takes RP elsewhere because they want to be rewarded for their time.
I've been on games in the past that have offered rewards for RP, bother tangible and intangible, and it -always- effects RP and it doesn't ever seem to make the RP better.
I think that's fair -- it's an OOC mechanism affecting IC behavior, and is absolutely a reasonable concern. The idea comes from a great place, but presuming it would nudge people directly toward 'RP'ing harder' is presuming a LOT.
It's a big no from me, chief. I think the RP awards are enough toward this purpose.
The motivation for RP'ing hard should be, one hopes, interesting IC repercussions in the form of further RP for your character, character progression via stature, gear, chy, etc...
At the same time, if the choice were all mine, I would rather stick with the bi-yearly voting we have now and have dev resources put towards something like grid 3.0 or rigging or grid 3.0 or cyberware play enhancements or grid 3.0 or tech guru play enhancements or gri⦠Yeah. I think you get it! :-P
There are so many players who have been around a long time, and experienced many games other than Sindome. Yes, I get you have seen "this" or "that" happen in Sindome or other games.
Please, don't let your previous experiences stop you from reading through a person's suggestions all the way through.
Alkaline, your first two responses to Ephemeralis completely ignored the part about it being "random." If it's "random," then it can be virtually impossible to ever figure out if a specific player is ever giving you Commending you.
It's an attitude that can negatively impact growth through community ideas and can be summed up as "X bad thing happened in the past because of Y idea. So now any idea that's even SIMILAR to Y is bad, regardless of any other variables that may have been changed."
Even in a world where there was no way to tell if you were commended or not (such as the above example where it was only a thing to be tallied up by admins) I would still vote no. I don't like when someone comments that that they enjoyed my RP on an OOC level. Just come spend more time with me.
But yeah, I don't think it's necessary for people to be rewarded OOCly for their good rp. Even in the short amount of time I've spent on Sindome, I've noticed that good RP is rewarded with more RP; the more your character is able to offer to other characters, the more others will go to your character. For being good at gameplay, you get rewarded with more gameplay.
If anything, an OOC Anonymous Feedback system with workings similar to Ephemeralis' original idea would be more beneficial to the game than OOCly rewarding already good RP.
