Cyberware

First of all, I think there should be different levels of each implant. Like claws. You got small, medium, and large, or whatever you want to call them. Or telescopic lense can see just into the next room, or several rooms away. Obviously, besides just basic cyberlimbs there should be ones that increase your strength and/or agility when using that limb. Also, besides claws, have other kinds of weapon implants. Have a gun built into your arms. Oh no, I've been disarmed, no what will I do. BANG. Blow the suckers head off. Only way to stop you then is to really be DISARMED.
Elastic face-gives a bonus to disguise skill, since you have fake bones in your face which you can move around.
Gyrobalance-You have a built in gyroscope, giving you really good balance. Plus to agility, maybe when someone is trying to push you off an edge, of jumping from roof to roof (which I think it would be cool if you could do too)
Bug detector-Easily spot bugs by picking up their broadcast frequency.
Independently focusable eyes-Less penalty when fighting multiple opponents.
360-degree vision-even less penalty when fighting multiple opponents and a bonus to perception
Radar-Built in radar sense, acts like 360-degree vision and lowlite spectrun system
Built in cell phone or clock, act just like the item, only no one knows your using it, and can't listen in.
Built-in chips that can act as storage for knowledge (memory) or for computer programs, or to give bonuses to skills, or to take over your body if you fall unconsious, getting you to a medical facility.

Also I think genetic engineering, could be cool, with retroviruses made to change you DNA so you start exhibiting certain traits.
Sharp teeth, sonar vision (acting like radar), pheromone control (increase your charisma), poison immunity, ablity to make poison or drugs naturally in your body, etc… All kinds of animal DNA could be spliced into a person for all kinds of desired advantages. Or maybe just for a look. Get your new snake eyes, everyone is doing it. Or a gang that all look like dogmen.
Okay, I'm done now.

Wow, ok, this is the second time I've read this post. So why didn't I think to post before? *scratches head* hmm..oh well
A lot of really cool ideas in here, Hiro. Can I call you Hiro? ;)
In particular, the memory chip implants. When I first came across the mem modules available for e-notes at the markets, I was all psyched 'cause I thought they were for PEOPLE!(yes yes, silly me.) I would really like to see the memory function expanded upon, and if not then to at least have cyberware available to modify it once your character gets enough mulah.
Didja know that the average short term memory span is -actually- 7 +/- 2 chunks of info? 'Tis a proven fact…so even though my character is something of a dumbass she should still get at least 5 little memory storage-chunk-things.
:p
ok, enough of smart alec mode, back to the post.
The whole bit about animal DNA splicing is..whee! I love it! But that and the idea of cyberware claws remind me of a little post I made a while back in character ideas or something. Johnny had some good comments to make on that, which you may wanna check out.
I'd still like to play a rabid dog, tho. So maybe..with enough splicing...you could be almost exactly like one? *shrugs*
Even if you can't actually turn -into- the animal...I really like the idea of getting some of the features. Would be pretty exotic...bordering on fantasy-genre, actually.
Ooh, this post is getting long, but I still have more to say. The whole elastic face thing would be neato. Far as I can tell, though, the diguise skill has no real application (unless it factors in with stealth somehow for hiding?). You can't 'disguise self as so-and-so' and change your name...as I've found out...without just RPing it. But that in itself would be a really cool feature to add. Yup yup.

And man...I think I saw a movie about a gang of dog-men...well I channel-surfed smack into it, at least. I sincerely hope that the fact I can't remember any more of it is because I promptly flipped the channel again.
*shudders*
Ever seen Space Truckers? Or something to that effect?

Hiro..he's dead.  I can't believe they killed him. *sobs*  Sure, call me what ever you want.  The reason you may not have posted before is b/c Johhny locked the thread, but I convinced him to unlock it.
ohhh…I'm sorry *hug*
Glad you're still posting, though :)

Guess what..I just thought of something extra to say! Must be the orange I just ate or something. Got them thinking juices flowing.

What if when your character gets spliced with animal DNA, you inherit one of the animal's weaknesses or bad habits in addition with whatever positive aspect you get? Like...someone who gets bat DNA splicing for enhanced hearing or whatever also would have a tendancy to prefer the dark, or go nocturnal? That's probably not the best example, as the time a character wakes up is entirely up to the player..but it could be something to guide RP by?
I just think it would be really interesting, cause it would mean that characters would have more flaws and weaknesses. Which is needed, methinks! So the stronger you try to make your character, there's also the chance of getting some really crummy weakness which you have to live with.
Hmm...
Or the whole thing could work as a kind of random deal. So when you send you character to the splicing lab and select an animal, there are random benefits and weaknesses for each, and you never know which one you would get?
So you wouldn't have 20 people all walking around with tiger-striped hair. Maybe one would have the eyes, slightly more ear hair, enhanced muscles, teeth, whatever. And you wouldn't know what weakness they had inherited with the strong trait.

Wheee....
I like this thread!

"Elastic face-gives a bonus to disguise skill, since you have fake bones in your face which you can move around."

So….what happens when someone punches you in the face?

"Gyrobalance-You have a built in gyroscope, giving you really good balance. Plus to agility, maybe when someone is trying to push you off an edge, of jumping from roof to roof (which I think it would be cool if you could do too)"

Somehow, I don't see any implants giving you more balance than your inner ear does, apart maybe by replacing your inner ear with a perfect, vat-grown one.

"Independently focusable eyes-Less penalty when fighting multiple opponents."

I'm fairly certain independently focusing your eyes would completely and utterly fuck up your depth perception. If anything, you'd probably miss more. And trip over things. A lot.

"Or maybe just for a look. Get your new snake eyes, everyone is doing it. Or a gang that all look like dogmen."

I don't think that even needs to be coded in any way… It's mostly a desc and history thing, after all. If you want it to make you more perceptive (like an animal), then you just stick UE into your perception.

Err…yea, I spose that works too.

*twiddles thumbs*

Now I can make a good reply, since I have time.  Lena, you should have known Hiron died. You were there when Bias draged his body away.  And here I am on my forth character.  Also, Space Truckers is a kick-ass movie.
Murphy, the "bones" in elastic faces would hold in place, the eyes would taking etting used to, like penalty to ag for a while.  If the stuff is in your description, where did it come from.  I don't know many people born looking like a dog.  THAT borders fantasy more I would think than if you had to get spliced before you could add that kind of stuff to your description.  And there a muscle grafts so you pay to increase strength, so why not to increase other stats.
It's not a matter of getting 'used to' eyes moving separately. It's like losing an eye, your depth perception is gone - it's one of those things the human mind simply isn't meant to control, like your heart beat.

And, like I said, the animal thing can be in your history, genes spliced before your character came to Withmore. Or, someone could play a doc that does these things, period. I mean, tattoos aren't coded, and Lucien does them anyway. It's an RP thing. Like Lucifer's background, for those of you who have an idea - I don't know the whole of it, but it's pretty out there, and none of it is coded. But he still played it.

If you want to increase stats, there's plenty of potential, plausible, logical implants for most of them. Wired reflexes for AGL, muscle grafts for STR, olfactory/aural/eye replacements for perception, muscle and bone lace for END, and so forth.

I know cyberware has it's own page, but it isn't one the projects page and the page it is on doesn't seem to give a status on it.  And yet, WEC is already there and from 'exam'ing the room, looks already for people to get implants and there are ads for the place and everything.  At this point you might be thinking, "What are you getting at?"  Well, I'm wondering, how soon until cyberware is availialbe?  Some things suggest it could be very soon, yet there is no status on the project and it is not even official stated as a project.  How much longer until we can load ourselves with machinery?  Or is this way to soon to ask and it won't be availialbe for years?
I find this facinating.

Especially (sorry to dig up an old topic) the '7 +/-2' thing about humans and memory.

What I find most interesting is that in my work, when we make artifacts of our discussions by capturing the concepts in Universal Modeling Language, the correct ammount of objects on the diagram is always 7 +/-2. That is to say you aways want to have around 7 +/-2 'concepts' showing at any given time.

Just my small contribution, trivial as it is.

As for when cyberware will be 'out' we don't have a hard and fast date. We do however have aspects of it in active development, and are planning to integrate the framework for supporting it in the very near future.

The problem with say that is even when that's 'done', that dosn't translate into you having the ability to go hog wild, because there still will be a fair amount of work left before you'll see everything you need to become a ninja for only 1,000,000,000 chyen. But we will get there, and you can expect to start to see results in the very near future.

You'll also be getting a fair number of christmas presents… so hold on for thoes.

*takes his hands and starts grabbing random parts of his body trying to figure out where is thoes are*  Very near future….I really like those words.  And Christmas presents.  WOO HOO!  *jumps up and down*  Cyberware is one of the things I've really been looking forward to.  It's one of the two main aspects of cyberpunk, as far as I'm concerned.  The other, of course is the attitude.  Sorry, I guess I'm stating the obvious.  Woo hoo.  Now I must be off.  I have to start trying to earn my 1,000,000,000 chyen.
That reminds me, I think we should have a Withmore lottery.  Chances are, no player would ever win, but just imagine if they did?  Or, if you don't want players getting their hands on such huge amounts of chyen, make the prize not quite as good.  Like no more than a few million chyen.  Now we end.
i'd like to become an automated pop machine for only 5000 cheyn please.

and yes lottery… there's a lottery ticket machine (at least the last time i checked.. wich -was- uhm.. months ago... but... no lottery?

and i think my short term memory is about that -2... on a good day... with no numbers involved... *sigh*

and there is no point to this post other then

"cyberware! good! ugh!"

oh wait.. i just thought of something...  maybe a bit less pointless. the idea of going crazy with descriptions is interesting. i've seen one... yes ONE really odd description and it was a sleeper with 3 breastes. nothing else... to be fair i'm not around that much, so maybe i missed the zebra child or monkey woman or hemaphrodite with antennas... anything... and kay, i've only had one character so i havn't gone the road of dogfaced men (with no killer fangs mind you, because that's a no no)

but i like where that can go... *nods and wanders off to think*

*points like a mad man*  You mean this one Bias?
*pats you on the head and gives you a cookie*

yes… this one. thank you.

*thinks*

uhm... is there a way i can move my last post about the retna eye camera thing in here to keep things nicer and tidyerer?
or does it really matter? :P
