Free Coffins for Life

It is my firm belief that it would be a very valuable addition if coffins were made free throughout the character's life and not just on those first weeks.

I fully understand that Sindome probably isn't designed for the casual player but there are times when some days off are just plain necessary, if not healthy. Probably I'm not as addicted to the game as I should by now but it's a fact that everybody's different.

My idea is that coffins could be made free with certain drawbacks.

1. The carriable weight/size, which nowadays is totally irrealistic (it amazes me how you guys haven't looked into this yet since you're always ranting obsessively about wanting the game to be as realistic as possible), should be cut down so that the ones who would really need to store some items would be forced to rent a room.

2. Forcing a player to log in every once in a while, like every week or so, nothing too strict or the initial objective will go down the drain anyway.

3. There is the lack of a shower, that's pretty important by itself too.

4. There could be some sort of message implemented into the player's description, on those bottom lines like the candy one, describing that he hasn't been sleeping well and that he kinda looks like shit.

5. Charisma points could drop, again nothing too harsh, like 1 tick every two weeks or so.

Plus, you'd get to point and mock a character for being a worthless piece of trash that doesn't even have the chyen to rent himself a decent appartment, wouldn't that be fun?

Seriously, there are times when nothing goes on, when you need a time off, when you feel like turning your attention to something else and all of that seems totally natural to me so I don't see any reason that can actually keep this from being added.

I'd like to hear your word on this, and I'd most surely appreciate to hear the staff's opinion.

You can get a cube, cubes are cheaper than apartments. Even the ones on gold.

Most people just pay their rent in advance. And yeah it does suck if you're not playing that often and have to spend what time you do play making money to pay rent. I suppose you can say that's part of the realism factor.

If you're going to be gone for a long time I'm sure the admins would be happy to work something out for you.

There are already enough coffin/cube/apartment dwellers. I don't think we need to encourage more people to do it.

The other thing is that cyberpunk is a harsh "reality" the fact that there are coffins in the first place is completely unrealistic, but its there because this is a moo, and there has to be some sort of way for a complete newbie to have safety the first two weeks they are here. There is nothing for free in the world, and this is doubly true in the CP genre.

Granted real life makes things in gaming difficult, I have had my isp crash, hence me not being able to go back to my appartment, and been looted of everything valuable. I hope this doesn't violate IC rule simply because I am giving an example of harsh reality of games but back to the point, having a free place to hole up in, no matter what the self effacing effects of it, is pretty much just hoarding up disk space I think.

But lets say there was free coffins for life, you charisma would go through the floor for numerous reasons, but the two main are not bathing, and not having a place to have your friends meet you. Also not just charisma would rot, every stat would rot if you were just holing up in the coffins for a while, including your skills, because lets face it, your not doing anything. Then again I think it should UE should be done away with, and just have players pick starting out skills and stats, and those be changed according to how much the player actually is using them, if someone picks swordsmanship, and they havent used it icly for lets say 6 months, it should start dripping away.

More than my fair share of cents.

One of the things I like *most* about SD is the UE system - but skill gain by use leads to PGing.
Skill gain by use IS realistic, but what isn't reaslistic is the unnatural amount of time people would then spend raising them, taking away from the time they have to, say, RP. Anyone who's played on an RP UO shard knows this - most powerful characters in gain-by-use games tend to be owned by single, wobbly-bottomed, spotty-faced misanthropic teenagers. Meanwhile, the majority of SD players are actual real people, with lives, and real-life friends. The UE system is part of the reason for this, I think. You don't HAVE to spend all day killing things and repeating tasks for skill gain, and as such, you have time to do things like eat, sleep, go to work, make money, meet people, drink too much, and so on.

Long Live UE!

Though I *do* think new characters should start out with a few more points to put into skills.
