Get Rid of @who

@idea from Akasha

The fact that you can just use @invis to remove yourself from the list makes it virtually obsolete. The point of it is to see who is online, and if @invis is being used, you might as well just use the regular who to find out, it would normally be more informative. @who should either be removed from the game or made mandatory for a character to be listed on there.

i -think- (correct me if i'm wrong someone) that the point of @invis is for those moments where you really want IC to stay IC. i'm not saying that people should stay @invis for the entirety of their chars lives though.

i use @invis only when i don't want someone going @who then 'who'. seeing me on @who, not seeing me on 'who,' and jumping to the conclusion, "she's doing something sneaky!"

on one hand it's nice to know who's online so you know in advance that there's someone to play with. (i DO use @who to judge if i want to play/or what i want to do… with a small player base it's a given) on the other hand there are moments where it adds a level of mystery to who you will run into. just like walking down a street would. sometimes running into chars that arn't on the @who throws a fun twist in RP.

say Bob the goat ninja is in hiding from Susan the koala fluffer because he fluffed her prized koala...

knowing how people think... sometimes... if susan can't go @invis then bob will simply check the @who for the right time to go out and avoid the consequences of his fluffing for a long time. this isn't the same as avoiding Susan using IC knowledge. It's avoiding Susan because of something OOC.

@invis when used well is a good tool. just like anything.

*shrug*

ill go back to the koalas now.

Bias said pretty much all that was needed saying.

Thank you.

Then get rid of it all together. I see your point, but why have it at all, if that's the case.
if you got rid of either @invis or @who, you'd deprive players of a -sometimes- needed flexibility in being seen or not being seen, depending on their current RP situation?

*shrug*

everyone -can- be seen @who all the time (if they so choose)
some want to be seen @who most of the time
some want to be -not- seen @who most of the time

i'm not sure how else to get my point across. i could type out some more examples using the lovely cast of characters including Bob, JohnBoy, JoeBoy, Susan and other variouse muppets we've created.

heh… but sorry if i'm not being clear today (ever). i blame the dish soap.

If, for the sake of RP, you make yourself invisible on @who, then everyone, for the sake of RP, should be invisible. Which makes it obsolete.

We're not supposed to play based on who's online, correct? Isn't @who promoting just that?

Nope. It's letting you know when people are online. Period.

If your using it to avoid RP with a specific person, then your abusing it.

It serves a very functional and important purpose.

Anything is abusable. Take 'think' for instance. Should we get rid of that? People shouldn't see it, but some choose to. It serves a very important purpose, but in all fairness is much more prone to abuse than fair use. A lot like @who.

Like any privildge, if it's abused, it's taken away. If someone abuses @who, they won't have access to it any more.

ah. mkay then, in that sense your right.

but. with the small playerbase and everyones RL schedules oh and time zones…

i think it would be a bit drastic to take away the @who...

*shrugs and wanders off to abuse my free access to a printer thanks to post secondary education*

ps. my computer is now giving me error messages in german... *sigh* a sign to format i would think. or kick it. i like the kicking it option.
