Help files

@idea from Hex

Hi. I noticed that there were quite a lot of gameplay issues that weren't in the help files. I'm just a newbie, so I felt pretty stupid when I couldn't find the answers to my questions…. I was talking to someone earlier who mentioned that it's much easier to code in the MOO then to code it in HTML so it can be put on the website, but if any of the coders don't have enough time to code the help files on the MOO, but have enough time to type it up in a Word (notepad, whatever) document, I can convert it to HTML for you, and you could upload it to the site. Just a thought! Thanks.

hehe … thanks for the offer, but if we can type it in word or even a notepad, it's only a 'click' and a 'yes' away from being an in-moo help file :)

You are welcome to write help files and submit them to us for inclusion via email to '[email protected]' and we can screen them and drop them in the player-written help.

Indeed, the problem with help files isn't the difficulty in doing them, it's the fact that the few admin we have are busy as hell coding and rarely find time for help files or documentation. Yes, it's partly down to laziness, since documentation -is- important, but with something like a M* where the code is in a constant state of flux, it's often difficult to say "Yes, I'm finished with this code, now I'll write a help document.". I plan to write an extensive guide to combat, WHEN if actually fully finish combat… 8/

But yeah, players -can- assist a great deal with documentation, especially those of you who've been playing a while and often know the game better from a player perspective than we admin actually do. What I suggest personally is that you submit any help files to these forums under a topic name appropriate to the help file, then we can discuss/amend before converting it across to the MOO.

Fun.
