mutter verb

@idea from Nicadeamus

Just athought, a mutter verb. it'd be like overhearing a whisper, only just a general thing to the room.

Heres your mutter verb Nic.

:mutters, "God, why the hell is Nic such a lazy ass bum…."

Wait... did you all hear that?

*rolls his eyes at Nic, then calmly walks over and picks them up again.*

*ahem*

perhaps I didn't clarify enough for those under the age of 18.

It would scramble the mutterings so those around you with a lower perception would miss them. Like a whisper. IE:

this is what I would see:

You mutter "jesus Lucifer is a transparent moron."

You would see:

Nicadeamus mutters "alkdfj Lualker ii R traLkPasnitn MorTN."

there. clarified. Just a thought on an idea of something RPed a lot. Perfect when you wanna mke those snide comments to yourself out loud without anyone hearing it clearly.

*shrug*

Right, thats just redundant. If you want them hearing it, then don't mutter it, say it out loud. Or whisper it and hope they hear it. But that verb is basically a non-directed whisper… which would basically be simple to code. Personally though, I think it'd be a waste of MOOspace
Actually, I like the idea, since my player alt is also fond of muttering… but that said, I won't be coding it coz I truely loathe the way whisper works.

But yeah, it'd be hellish simple to code.

Opinions and disagreements are fine. Please stop cutting others down personally and state opposition with some intelligence.
I saw this old post (while reading the old posts like the admin always say to do) and saw that it was left unfinished.  I think it would be a great idea to mutter things.  It's something that would make the game more realistic.  Plus, people that know you real wel, will start to understand your muttering, and then they can laugh at the person you are making fun of also.  Just a thought.
I'm with nic on this….it's like I'm in a room with Luc and nic....Luc is making fun of nic and i can mutter "Just shut up"....like nic said you two won't understand but you you would know i muttered something...and would be like Excuse me?  Did you have something to say?

Blah blah...

emote mutters something.

emote mutters something obscene.

.mutter something about Dominik and goats.

[admin]This went on for several pages[/admin]

That wasn't spammy at ALL

But ras shouldn't code not only cause he hates the way it's done, but he's got plenty on his plate already….any volunteers?

Actually, I already editted the whisper code, thus removing my objections to the way it was coded.

Coding a mutter verb would take all of maybe 5 minutes and utilize the verb that processes whispers based off the awareness of people in the room. Talking to cell-phones uses the :process_whisper verb to see what others in the room over-hear. A mutter verb would need to be approximately 5-10 lines of code calling the process_whisper function and announcing the results appropriately.

Either way… I don't really care.

The way it is now isn't it the Dom whispers something to Joe.   ?

I liekd the the Dom whispers, "a;oijfas  ODSIaskjc nsdfo" to joe better….oh welll...........

The 'something' result is what you get if your perception check result is low, a better perception would generate something like:

Joe whispers, "H:::o:y:o:::king:l::er", to Bill.

better

Joe whispers, "Hel:o you:f:ck:n: l:ser", to Bill.

etc

etc

etc

etc…

The old random characters just made the -whole- thing unreadable because it was IMPOSSIBLE to determine the things you heard from the things you didn't.

Joe whispers, "HE3zoUypohG7kingLlwCer", to Bill.

That last example had exactly the same 'heard' letters as the first example of the new system, but it's pretty impossible to tell -WHICH- letters were correct in that example.

Ahhh…..*boosts his pcp to see the cool thing*
I like the idea of muttering. And it wouldn't neccessarily have to be about someone else. You can do the, "God you are such an idiot," sort of mutter about yourself.

And unlike think it would be IC so you might actually get people muttering the things they normally only dare to think.
