Name Filter

@idea from Seven

So.. I think names should be filtered out some how.. because its not something you understand or don't understand.. if someone points at them selves and says 'Bob' your gunna know what they mean most likely.

I am in total agreement!

you point to yourself and say, "oogyboogypolip"

What if they're using a nifty-spiffy not-their-username top secret alias of stealth +17?

Then it'd get tricky!

Oh yeah. Actually you have a point.

That way, if you were intrducing yourself as Mad Frankie Man most likely to chew off your ear in a fit of rage, the code would still say "oogyboogypolip"

damn it to hell.

Unless there were some sort of tag that the code would use, I guess.  but then that could be abused really easily, I'd imagine.  >:O
Yeah, if people twinked out.  Something like
Say My name is *(/Chucky\)*
Twink: say *(/I have no english skill.\)*
kill twink
Yeah, I saw this problem the first time one of you said the others name and the related Twink Ab-Use Case (I saw call these things TACs cause their a pain in our ass!).

I'd love to exempt Captialized words in the middle of a sentence, but we all know how quickly it would be abused. I'd love to hear your thoughts on how I could support your need here.

I mean, It would be abused a little bit, the capitalized word in the middle of the sentance.  But I think the players could police themselves for the most part.  I mean, other then mishaps.. like someone capitalizing a word by accident, or something.. we could always OOCly say they shouldn't use that as a way to say a word that doesn't usualy come across for them.
instead of the capitalizing thing, how about something else?  similar to some kind of HTML tag or something..  but have it only be able to work with..  say two or three words maximum.  and the rest would go right back to the regular language code.  I dunno.  could be abused, but it wouldn't be nearly as bad as just letting all capital letters flow right by.

Still kind of annoying, though.  *sigh*

Or perhaps each person could have an @name thing where they can list all their "names" or aliases, etc.  But obviously it shouldn't be available for others to view.  and I guess any name on that list, when they say it, will not show up in another language?

I guess it wouldn't work if you were talking about BubbaGump though, because his name wouldn't be in your @name list..  or something..  arrrr!!

I was thinking about that too.. maybe a list.. of like.. words that would not be translated.. like.. words they might pick up.. and limit it too like 5 words or something, and they can be changed.. but at the same rate as say… someone could pick your pocket over and over again..
hm, could work similar to the @memory list.
Based on intelegence even.
Or, you could /use/ the memory list.  Any word in the memory list could be a word that isnt translated.  I mean.. thats what memory is for right?
I dunno.  i used to primarily use @memory for stuff like..  who owed me how much money..  and updated it accordingly.  Also but random other things in it I wanted to remember.
to be fair, there's no way it could be abused any more than it can be if people just go:

ooc I said, "Care for a cappucino and a poetry reading? That's a nice roll-neck sweater by the way"

I mean, if you're going to cheat, why bother going through a more convuluted method, when you have such as abusable tool as ooc

I guess what I'm saying is, that the language system can be abused anyway, regardless of if you tweak it to make it more realistic for those of us who don't want to 'win'
