New character type

Yeah, this would require more coding work that should not take away from anything else major in progress but ..

What if there was an option in chargen that would allow you to just create a Fast and Dirty Expendable ™ so that you could go out and raise hell and not have to worry as much? Same chargen process but the beginning question would be something like ...

"Do you want to create a standard character, or a Fast and Dirty Expendable"
Press 1 for Standard
Press 2 for a FDE

This player can't work for the usual means (Bruce, SHI, corp jobs) and no real history needs to be approved, but they can sleep in the coffins as long as they live (which probably shouldn't be long) and get a stipend of say 150 creds per day to they can hang at the Drome or Carnal or wherever and shoot their mouth off/raise hell/start conflict and most likely die a spectacular CP style death.

Both this and your ambient population ideas sound good to me… there's only one thing I think might be a problem. These FDEs would be created solely for the purpose of adding to the CP ambience and conflict and what all, right? But -who- would be making them? Most of the SD players have characters already, so much as they might like to, they're not gonna be able to make FDEs 'till they get permed. Yes, if their character does eventually die off, they will have lots of frustrations to get out and their FDEs will be awesome...but for the moment, you're just gonne have newbie-level players creating FDEs. SO they may not be great...though the concept is. I would still give this idea my vote, but just thought this aspect should be considered.
Good point, but now that I think of it, what better way for a n00b, to learn the ropes?
Very true… would definitely give them an idea of what to expect, help make their more permanent characters better. But my point was that the FDEs RP would be more fluffy than conflict-oriented.
Good idea! I'm up for this and I think it would be another advantage if the admin were to introduce a way to vacation your current character. Let older established players, whom they trust, send their characters away for a while for whatever reason and play some of these FDEs as a way to stimulate roleplay and spice up the moo a bit.

Have it be an application process. You send an e-mail request to say like Iga and Johnny and include in it a description of what you'd like your FDE to be like and where you want your normal character to go; maybe jail or to Topeka to visit an old dying aunt - whatever. And depending on how plausible your ideas are they could say yea or nay and give you the ability to play an FDE.

This would prevent it from being abused by twinks fresh from some gawd awful Furry-Trolls-Mating-With-Fish-That-Are-Invisible-Mud.

Keep em comin max
I hate to be the odd-man-out of sorts…but this idea just rubs me the wrong way. I just don't see a lot of improvement coming out of it at all. I think it's something that sounds good in theory, but when done it just backfires.
Having a FDE goes against everything we do to make you get attached to your character, to make you put a value to their life and not just treat them as cannon fodder.

This one won't be happening, sorry.

Basically you want a pkiller with little or no purpose?

Boy, what fun. Thank you, no.

Vacationing? Yes, sounds good. Making some disposable character that will only be used to mindlessly kill sleepers and commit pointless petty crime? No. Lame. Boring.

Johnny:

If making us get attached to our character is the idea, then so be it.

Nic:

The idea was not to have a 'pkiller with little or no purpose'

The idea was to have a character that a player -would not- be attached to, and hence, more likely to go out and raise hell, cause trouble and generally spark things.

As for killing sleepers, you don't need an FDE to do that, and I thought that increasing 'pointless petty crime' was in theme?

It wasn't too long ago as I remember that the boards were filled with a discussion on increasing street crime.

In any event, if Jman says no because of the attachment issue, then so be it.

*trudges off, back to the think tank*

I thought it was a decent idea, easier to get PC gangs and stuff.  I remember awhile back when there 'wasn't enough crime'  and we had the whole argument on how we don't wanna die and risk and reward and shit.  I like the idea, a GM could get together a 5 person PC gang, just to ruffle some feathers, maybe make it so they couldn't have combat, or just sucked ass at it.  It would make for some interesting RP
I don't see why you can't 'ruffle feathers' with your own characters.

Are you so in love with them that you put them on a shelf to sit in little jars and get dust?

Or do you want to get out there and be hot shit and kick ass and be cool?

Now I'm getting conflicting messeges here.  Johnny said no so we could be attached to them. Well if i'm attached to a corpie character, how am I gonna act like a bad ass wit h a gun?  If I tried I'd get killed, over and over and over again, then I'm not too attached to him am I? Then RP sucks for me I won't want him any more.  I think the idea for it lasting like 48 72 hours is still decent.  If the admin say no they say no.  Fine by me
