Newbie Helpers

I was thinking about the OOC 'jobs' of Newbie Helpers : Players that have an extra command to page answers to other players in need of a hand.

Everyone knows how embarassing it is to be a newbie anywhere, not knowing the commands and being unfammiliar to the game in overall.

So a new player would have a nhelp (or something) command that would page the Newbie Helpers with a question that they could answer with a npage <player>.

Of course there would be limits to who can page for help and who can be paged by the Newbie Helpers and it could be tied to the 2 week coffin period.

Newbie Helpers would be players that are willing to help new players to get the hang of the MOO and would be picked by the mighty xhelp people.

I think that would help to ease the constant questioning of basic commands to the xhelp people and leave them to focus on more important areas.

I like that idea.  It wouldn't tie up xhelp, or ooc.  And you could save them the embaresement of asking over OOC, and all that shit.
itd be easier i think to set up antoher xooc chat, that the newbie helpers could join, and all newbies would automatically be joined upon leaving chargen. I know other moos use it such as ShadowRun, it has like 20 diffeferent OOC channels to chit chat on.

so maybe a newbie channel should be implemented tht broadcasts moo wide and only those who are subscribed to it or joined in on it get the messages, to avoid spamming the other players.

and a newbie who list would be nice so the newbie would know if someone is going to reply.

Definity cool. A newbie could still ask for help about possibly frustrating tech issues even when they dont see anyone around ICly and dont see any active admin being active. An no resorting to the OOC use of the SIC.

What happened to the OOC channel anyways? I wasnt paying attention when all that was being talked about.

Either way, it would be good.  Because the newbie learning curve is crazy long.  So many questions.. especialy if its there first M**.
There is an OOC channel now ;)

I don't see why xooc can't do all of this.   but you should probibaly instruct noobs on that tip.  and maybe start them connected to xooc chat, or at least have a help <xooc>  to tell you how to connect. (I'm guessing there's something somewhere but I can't find it.)
