Signal Lost

@idea from Seven

I'm not sure exactly how the SIC is supposed to work, but I think it would be cool if it told you when you enter a deadzone. Like the Signal Lost, when you do a 'who' and then it goes dead. It could be 'Signal Lost' and 'Signal Found' and it could be an option, so that people who don't like it can turn it off. It just gets annyoing because, you'd think you would know if it was dead or not.. and not have to contantly check using who or chelp or whatever.

Something as simple as a + and - next to the room name could even work.  Isn't very intrusive but if you want to check, bam, there it is.
….ummm....doesn't the sudden inability to hear anyone on SIC do that for you all ready?
except sic chatter isn't constent, so you never really know unless you wait  few minutes, and if you are tryingto talk to someone on sic and you enter a deadzone, you may not realize you are missing all their messages for a while
Deadzones in the SIC are IC. Knowing the signal's gone dead, is IC. You know, because you try to use your sic and can't.

As for not realizing you're missing someone's messages for a while, that's IC, and unless you icly check you've got a signal, it's IC that you might miss that conversation.

If you don't want to deal with it, buy a signal booster, or go somewhere that has one.

Well, the way I always figured it.. Was like, with 65 million people and all, someone would most likely always be ICly talking on the public channel.
Frickin' true Nemisis.
Well, yeah that's true, but, if there were 65 million people all using the sic Network, if half of one percent of those people were using the SIC at any one time, that would mean you'd have 325000 people talking at any time, all at once.

Which, would render the public SIC worthless, since, I seriously doubt anyone could pick out a single voice in amongst all that.

Let's have the moo generate 325000 random messages every few seconds and broadcast them on the public SIC! I bet that'd have a few more people ignoring it.

What I really mean is, what would always knowing if your SIC had signal really do for the game? Those moments you find yourself without SIC signals can make for interesting RP moments, often more interesting when you only discover you haven't got signal when you need one. Is it really that much of an effort to type 'who' every few minutes if you're using the SIC?

Personally, there are plenty of other areas of the game I'd rather see improved and developed than the ability to always know if your SIC has signal. I've said in the past, I'd like to see the SIC's communication functions removed all together. On the surface, it might seem like adding the feature you're asking for isn't a big ask, but, I suspect the code required would take up considerable time, that coders could be using to give us more cyberware, fun things to do, fixing bugs.

If you really need to arrange your moosex sessions, you can always use a cellphone, afterall.

I've thought about that.  Remove the communication functions of the SIC and instead make an optional cyberware available that works about the same way.  Maybe even have different kinds, with different features to them.
Yeah, now see, That's an idea!

Mmm, cyberware…

And one of those featues could be something that signals you when you lose your signal….ummm, hmm, lemme try rewords that.

The cyberware could sense when you lose or regain your signal and notify you, but you would have to pay extra than just getting the basic implant.  I'm sure there could be some other features to add to.
