there should be a 'listen' command where you can type like, 'listen e', and you start listening to the east, and if there's anything going on, what you would hear would depend on what your preception stat is…

Look through every forum on this board. I'm more than positive it's been talked about before. We have plans for listening devices and such. If you don't find it, then we'lkl explain more fully.

Yup, it's been discussed before… It also falls into the category of code that we like to sidestep at the moment, that category being things that will take a LOT of dicking around with existing code for a reletively passive feature. It would involve tinkering with the basic message announcement logic which is one of those cancer like features that requires precise surgery to correctly implement a change on. Finding and editting the core code is simple enough, it's effects spread so deeply through other code it would take alot of work to be sure to have dealt with all the far-ranging knock-on effects... and I only like to deal with so many of these cancers at a time.
