Various Ideas

Various ideas that didn't make it through the Idea Queue for some reason:

Lucifer
Doors
When a hidden door opens, you notice it and don't have to search for it.

Lucifer
Combat
You should be able to aim all attacks… even with melee... i mean, if you want to try and hit their head, it should let you...

Lucifer
Rastus... about combat.
A few things... first. Stealing is still allowed in combat... which i think should stay... i also think grappling someone whos attacking you should be put in. Each take 1 or 2 turns from combat, and have the SAME messages. If you attept to steal... and succeed... then it gives everyone the failed grapple... but you actually stole something from them... or something like that... hell, if you do it well... no message is given. Secondly, when it comes to using things like disarm and flee... i suggest that not only adding to the penalties that are already involved, but you should have to wait a few turns before your able to use that action again once you've done it... seeing Gerik disarms Luc... wait 2... Gerik disarms Luc... wait 2 Gerik disarms Luc... thats kinda pathetic... Luc would be ALL over that, and he wouldn't let Gerik do it again... Just a suggestion.

Lucifer
Message handlers
Some kind of code that allows admin to project messages to areas... set the width, the center, and send the message... areas withing the width see the mesage

Lucifer
NPCs
Either have notes for them... or have admin assigned for certain NPCs... this thing of one day having a NPC thank you going towards an NPC hating your guts for things way back when needs to be addressed.... ICness is being shot to hell here.

Rigby
Mace
Mace or peper gas or soemthing like that...is it coded or not? I think its a good practicle self defence idea:)

Lucifer
@respond
How about adding a verb that tells you who your going to respond to? like, @respondee, or something like that.

Toby
fixing traceback errors
it should be so that whenever a user reports a traceback, they get a message whenever the problem is fixed..  instead of having to wait around and trying whatever gave the traceback to see if it's been delt with.

Gerik
Identifying bodies.
At the moment I think it's too easy to identify a corpse, you can just look at it and it tells you who it is, I think we should have to get a Doc(Davd for instance) to do an autopsy on the body, given they have the right equipment.

Toby
Nito-Funcam's..
wouldn't it be cool?  if the FunCam's date and time stamped the photos they take?  or if like, you could write messages on the back of them.  I think so.  and if you don't, then that's also cool.

Rigby
Closets in the apartments
Closet space....you could open c close c, turn lite in c to (on off) hang <clothes> c put <umbrella> in c it will be great! for the nicer apartments you could have walk-in closets, and maybe a stash spot in the floor or something.......

Timmy
help to new charecters
There should be a "Welcome to Withmore" packet issued to all new people arriving at the city gates.  It's contents would include a quick history of the city, a summery of the local laws and ordanances, as well as tips and leads on employment as well as places to stay.  other things you would find in such packet might be whatever recent news and stats about the city's population and such..   and maybe a couple of 'bus passes' for the MagLev..

Rigby
ATM
Um, ATM machines would be great on other levels aside form gold, maybe in the malls and such?

Dominik
Stores
How bout at the stores...sell soda...beer, coffee...so people can have them at home.  like a 6 pack

Lucifer
Descriptions...
Ok... this is just something I've been trying to figure out... how do we remember what people look like? In real life, sure... you can easily remember a face... but are we suppose to memorize an entire description? I just want to know how we'd give a description of someone...

Lucifer
Verbs...
A submit verb... it allows someone to grapple you without rolling. (For RP measures).

Timmy
WW Deliveries
WW Delivery Crates should have shipping lables on it, for those with short memory spans.

Jadael
Special 'Nude" message?
Shouldn't there be some sort of message for when your nude? 'Cause right now it ain't that big of a deal, you don't think "Oh my gosh, he's naked"

Lucifer
Possible RP Verb...
This may be a bit...strenuous... but it may greatly enhance RP. An @roll verb. Basically, you can do something like... @roll Chr against Nic, or even give ya a nice menu or something. Allows for those times you may want to RP some kind of event. (IE: Blackjack... @roll Luck, INT against Nic it rolls both against Nic, gives a result to both people...) Theres many ways it could be set up... basically it just takes the current roll system, and tells the rollers succeed, miss, miss bad, really succeed.

Grim
Civilian Police-Band Scanner
A civilian frequency scanner these days can pick up local police transmissions and whatnot, perhaps, if the Freqman 4k's haven't beaten my idea to the punch already, such devices might be available to monitor WJF emergency and dispatch frequencies.

Tash
New command
It would be just spiffy if there were a command for being able to plant something on someone.

Grim

In theory, WJF all use secure cards, so listening to their freqs would be pointless, unless ofcourse, you crack the secure code and then your in trouble with the law anyways.

Its in the plans for the new char-gen.

System exists.

This is in the works.

[admin]How is this coming rastus?[/admin]

I'm just gonna address a few of these in this one post..

Stealing during combat - Hrm, I'm not too fond of it in the first place, but assuming it is kept in place.. definite loss of combat round and much, much greater chance of getting caught. The reason why I'm not too fond of this is the whole issue with ranged combat. If you're in a close range scuffle, you'd have a decent chance at maybe lifting the knife out of the guy's pocket… but if you're at 10 paces with a couple Glocks at each other's heads, stealing is gonna be pretty damn stupid.

Disarming and fleeing during combat - I dunno if it's in yet, but I've suggested mods for whatever style is being used.. running away from a guy with a gun is gonna be easier to do compared to duking it out in a good fist fight. Disarming.. yes I see what you mean. I'd certainly hold onto my weapon that much tighter if somebody was trying to rid me of it.. but perhaps the disarmer may try that much harder. All about balance and giving the attacker/defender a good chance.

Closets are unlikely to happen... get yourself a locker or cabinet.

ATM machines - I've discussed the pros and cons of having one of these on Red someplace. No definite yes or no on this yet. We'll see how things go.

Selling packs of drinks at stores.. I like the idea. I'm also waiting for people to send submissions for food or drinks they'd like to see in the game.

Nude messages - I've been musing over this one for well over a year or more. Quite a number of people don't bother to set their @nakeds, so you just see the basic descrip on people. I was thinking of displaying a simple "Bob is completely naked." or something below the description if a) they aren't wearing -any- clothes at all and b) none of their nakeds are set. It doesn't completely solve things, but perhaps it will give those players with no clothes and @nakeds set something to think about.

Quickly, on corpses and their identification. At the moment, once they pass beyond a certain decay stage they do become unrecognizable. Aside from that, I don't plan any other -major- changes to the system. A person does not suddenly become unrecognizable at the instant of death, it's the same person, just not moving. This basically falls back to player RP, if you knew the persons name ICly then you can identify the person, else you should RP ignorance.

I -may- make decay render a corpse unrecognisable at an earlier stage and I may also make it impossible to easily identify a decapitated corpse. Otherwise, nothing much will change in this field. As for using medics, code is in the works for forensics which will allow you to identify what the person died of, if the corpse has been moved since the time of death and possibly lift evidence (DNA, fingerprints) if the corpse has been handled. Recovering bullets will also be possible, which will then be testable to establish a match to a weapon, if the weapon is found.

Nudity - We set default naked messages, easy. Then instead of starting with a blank message in each slot they have a generic nudity message.

Stealing in combat - Will probably be disabled.

Grappling during combat should already be possible. I'll check. Aiming of all weapons is already planned.

Mace or pepper gas - Great in theory to allow weak characters to defend themselves, problem being it would be abused by -all- players as a precurser to combat.

Plant command - planned, I will get to it, eventually.

@roll idea - I've never liked the idea, sorry.

WW shipping labels - WW is earmarked for a complete overhaul, some time in the distant future. Low priority

'submit' verb - I've been musing over this for some time, being that I find the @trust system clumsy. What I'm hoping to figure out is some kind of varient of the @trust system with easier to use syntax. If that doesn't come to fruition then I'll just be adding various actions to the trust pattern, specifically - grapple, frisk, follow.
Perhaps 'submit to <person>' will allow the target to perform one usually restricted action on you. Iunno, I'll think on it.

6-packs - Food and drink will eventually play a much larger part in the game.

I think that's everything, apart from some that have been covered by other admin.

Danke.

Oh, I never even knew about the @naked command. Funny what you can learn when you ask, ain't it?

There really needs to be some sort of manual on the site that explains some of this stuff. I know thjere's a FAQ for new players, but for example I couldn't figure out how to use the NLM terms. This needs to be written somewhere. And categorized so you don't need to wade through the help index.

Yes, I agree.. a collection of commands and help on how to use various things would be helpful to everyone. There are many commands that most players are unaware of and there's many things where no help files exist.

The difficulty comes in tracking down everything, as it is time consuming for admin when they could be fixing some code or working on a plot.

A categorized page on the web would be nice… hmm...

Since the help is now disk-based, it should be much easier for me to access via the web by perl and expose it on the site in some manner.
Nice nice… good to see Ras is on top of things... just eh... ya... forget all that and get vehicles! *hides*

Other then that, yea, I like that submit to <person> idea... though I don't like the @trust thing for grapple... submitting to them may be a Judge who wants to search you, or frisk you. (Submit could also be used to allow for ungrappled frisks...). Why would you want to let them be able to do that without asking first? What about a submit <frisk, grapple, etc.> to <person>... that way, they can ask to allow you to grapple them, but then they can't frisk you instead... (Theres a loop there... asking to ICly grapple, then frisk... ICly, you'd see them try and frisk you and pull away.)

I don't think there'd be a need to specify what you were submitting to. If you chose to submit to someone, you'd be submitting to them approaching you and moving to touch you. Wether they begin to frisk you, suddenly lock you in a headlock or snap a set of cuffs on you, it'd be too late for you to do much about it.

Submit would be the option to relax and put yourself at the mercy of a person's approach for a short peroid of time, resuming your usual wary stance immediately after.

About help stuff for the newbies, I've seen moos where you like go through a set of rooms to set up your character and they teach you a little as you go
