People gather 'round their friends and families dinner table and stuff themselves silly with turkey and bread from the turkey's nether cavaties, smuthered in a flower and water turkey flavored sauce, followed by rum cake (which is as far a I can tell just an excuse to get drunk on rum while still calling it 'dessert'). This is of course immideately followed by a coma like sleep from which they don't emerge until the sun rises.
Then the next day, they arrive at the malls by the fucking truckload, desperate to scavange the stores and pick them completely clean, pushing and shoving whoever get's in their way like survivors who found a hidden cache of gasoline in a MadMax movie. Somehow it escaped the decorators that Thanksgiving actually has a decoration theme of it's own… On November 1st all the christmas trees start showing up in every open commercial space, and not a single decoration devoted to a pilgram or freedom from opression ever dares to rear it's head.
All the while we're suposed to remember what we're thankful for, as if we shouldn't be thankful for the air we breath every day of our lives, or that we don't live in a geodesic dome, a prison of our own collective creation and yet our only shelter from the world we previously destroyed with our short-sighted actions.
I try to remember to be thankful every day... Mostly for my friends, for without them I would probablly be a shell of my present self. I try to remember that it's through these people's generous graces that I am so well off, and lead such a fulfilling and complete life. Johnny's a good example; Not only is he a close friend and confidant, but he has also dedicated countless hours and untold money to our continued happiness and persistent escape from reality into a world which constantly reminds me of everything we have to be thankful for, yet allows me to explore aspects of myself that would otherwise go unexplored.
I'm thankful for all the players who also contribute their invaluable time, energy, and immigination to making this a place we're all very proud to call a world we created and occupy together.
I'm thankful there's a fund in progress to finance the recount of the election, in the desperate hope that democracy might actually happen.
I'm thankful for my family, who have stuck with me this far, even though things can be pretty rough some times.
What are you thankful for?
