I've not communicated much via the yahoogroups forum in quite some time, so
you'll have to excuse the abruptness of this message. When I first heard
the news, a friend of mine had AIMed me; frankly, I couldn't believe it.
Why would anyone in their right mind attack one of our nation's landmarks a
second time around? Moreover, why would anyone go so far as to kill so many
innocents? I turned on the news, and the image that has been seared into my
mind these past few days played on against the backdrop of stunned media
voices– that shadow of a 757 passing behind Tower 1 of the World Trade
Center, and the subsequent explosion that followed as it plowed into Tower 2. I am in mourning. To think that members of humanity would sink to new
lows in committing an atrocity just to prove a fucking point! All of those
people are dead, and for what? Human life is priceless; we get only one
chance to exist as we are today-- one chance to enjoy the passions of youth,
to become an adult, to have children, to grow old, and then it's gone.
Who's to say that one is entitled to forcefully take such a wonderful gift given to us by Whoever's out there in the Universe, and throw it away to show how much
one hates? I can't understand it. Hatred is unfathomable, some deep dark
thing that naws, bred from ignorance, fear, and above all else, arrogance.
These terrorists, zealots, whatever they are, have gone so far in their
hatred to commit murder. Their leaders, if any still exist, sit in smug
satisfaction of the monstrous nature of such a savage act; but soon, oh so
soon, they'll feel the noose tighten. America in it's resolve will wipe
that arrogant smile right off of their faces when it brings to bear the
brunt of a frightened, mourning, and enraged nation willing to do what it
takes to bring about some sense of justice. Nonetheless, we don't have the
slightest clue who has done this, but we, in our frantic search for answers
have sought out people such as bin Laden, the Palestinians, when in fact we
don't know who has done this. The media, in their hunt for the truth--
perhaps, more in their hunt for ratings?-- have focused their attention on
the Middle East, seat of Islam. We want to blame someone, because no one
has had the courage, the infamy, to step forward and take their place in
history as perpetrators of the most atrocious mass murder of American
noncombatants since the founding of this nation. In being so quick to
judge, we may well make mistakes; there are plenty of anti-American factions
throughout the world with enough resources and manpower to hijack not one,
not two, but four airliners. We may, in our rage, turn the brunt of our
anger on a people innocent of the crimes these terrorists have committed--
Americans like ourselves, as well as nations abroad, who might not
nessessarily share our views, but are humans nonetheless. Therefore, I ask
that we as a people, as a nation, stay firm in our resolve to seek justice,
and to judge only those who have brought themselves to shame. Above all
else, in this darkest of times, even while you feel the rage within crying
to be unleashed, to seek vengeance, to commit wrath against one's hidden
enemies, love your fellow man.
Be well, brightest blessings, and I love you all,
Daniel
