I was just wondering if playing an aspiring fixer, there was anything I should know, like say I should be bugging imms, or there's this nice shop on Green.. because as is I seem to be hurtling towards an eternity of working SHI for 100 chyen an hour… and I can't even find a friggin' battery. (pathetic... I know. Sue me.)

Why don't you get a job from Bruce then?
Yes, I'd suggeste speaking to a GM about fixer positions and what it entails. Off hand I can tell you that ideally a fixer should be dealing in everything. Not just gear, but information, setting up meetings, arranging transportation, etc. Think of it as a kind of hotel concierge.
A fixer should be out among the people, getting to know them and finding out what they need and then going about getting it.

I've been working at that… and yeah, Nic kindly pointed out the job opportunity with Bruce, and I've been doing that recently ; )

Good good..
We need to have a person playing a fixer who knows the dome and the people and is around enough to get the job done.

Yeah I knew that Astro left, but I was actually talking about now, I swear an admin told me that, but it was prolly three in the morning and I misread or somethin'

*has no earthly idea* Ahh well.. Pulse's history etc. are sort of aimed towards his being a fixer.. so that's the path he shall take. (would seem sort of odd if abruptly he changed his mind, and went street samurai. Professional Courier could be possible.. but there's one of those, too)

A fixer isn't much help if they can't be found or if nobody knows who they are. I believe we are waiting on some code to be put in place to get gear for them, but nevertheless there are other things that a fixer can do.
There are always other ways to get things if you have no cash.. trade information for gear/chyen, trade that for something else. Plenty you can do even if you aren't dubbed "fixer" by an admin.

Advantage system is prolly a ways off yet.. lockpick recode is in the top 10 of my project list…
Fixers... Yeah, the whole fixer situation is a little vague at the moment, partially because we eventually want to code a detailed and fun system for fixer supplies and contacts. Until such a time as anything is coded, it's basically being 100% hand moderated by available GM's. Stonemonk was doing alot of work in that field, but his recent move/change of living arrangements has taken him away from the MOO. Hopefully he will return, although I suspect it won't be in as great a capacity as he used to be with us.
Anyhow, pretty much as FS suggested for now, get to know the dome, players, chars. Learn the lie of the land and familiarize yourself with the ins and outs of Withmore life. We do need fixers and yes, there are a couple of half set up fixers around at the moment...
What I suggest is, if you're interested in being a fixer, play your character appropriately and be sure the admins/GM's are aware of your interest. After that, play on and we'll do our usual monitoring stuff.. if everything pans out nicely and we see players who fit our criteria for a fixer, then we'll contact you ICly.
At least until we get a proper system implemented anyhow...

Even if I were around, it appears as though my apparent association with WJF will keep me from being around in my previous capacities any time soon.

yuppers. as rastus said i'm doing a lot of teh fixer stuff by hand. So believe me when i tell you that I'm watching.
Yer best bet in that arena isn't to xhelp me and say HEY STONEMONK!! IWANNA TALK TO A FIXER!!! cuz i'll just tell you no. If you xhelp and ask me to chat a bit i'll be mroe than happy to come discuss your inquiry. And once we've done that I'll be mulling the idea around. If I do anything from their…you'll find out ICly. :P
It's more fun that way.
And just so you guys know as far as histories go. It's probably best that you don't assume your character positions in the dome that need admin assistance. There's the chance that it won't happen and I'd hate to be the one to tell someone like pulse that 'I'm sorry, your character can't be a what he wants to be.' So best bet is to make your character and 'aspiring' whatever...and that way he/she can move on if it doesn't work.
that's my words for now.

Hey monk welcome back, finally. Now Ras you got so many things that are near the top of your to do list it sounds like the dome will never be done just letting you know :p

Hmm.. well, there *are* other options for Pulse as a character, he just worked as a fixer at one point… and seeing as how he got busted, its entirely possible he'll never be able to do that again. But he'll never be a combat-centric char... he's just not designed for it. He's average with the rifle skill... and that's about it for combat skills ; ) ::shrugs:: We'll see I suppose.. perhaps I will talk to you some, Stonemonk, once I know the Dome better. This is a first-time character, after all. I had no idea there was any sort of 'restriction' on being a fixer when I created Pulse, seeing as how they are a staple of cyberpunk.. so we'll see how things go, worst comes to worst I can terminate this char and make a different one.

There is -NOTHING- random about my stunstick. Beatdowns are a precise and carefully calculated science… there is nothing at ALL random about the MOO, we infact employ a complete staff of pygmy computer specialists who sit at terminals linked to the main Sindome server and fanatically type numbers from a huge list given to them when they sign their contract. Failure to type the exact sequence for all of eternity results in instant and incredibly painful execution by testicular inflation using an old bike tire pump we found at the back of FireStorms shed...
Fear the pygmys... and don't get me started on FS's Department de gnomes.

Hey rastus nothing random? I hit luc twice. *stops thinks and then laughs with the whole dome at luc, and his bitching about luck*, and if you beat nic, surprised I haven't had my skull caved in yet.
