I took a look at that Cybersphere game. Anyone else play/played/looked at it? I'm trying to connect but it is saying I can't log in as a guest from that site.
Anyone know how to get by that or anything?

In my experience, (all avalible disclaimers apply: I'm a admin on another similar MOO, others will tell you a different story, your milage may vary, heed my advice at your own peril, I am not a lawyer, etc.) Cybersphere focuses less on the RP side of things, and more on the 'coded power' side of things. That is to say, people lean more heavily on the code than Sindome allows, and can't be counted on to apply 'rules of RP' when the 'rules of the code' break down. This is in stark contrast to Sindome, where your expected to think about what's realistic first, then what the code will allow.
This isn't to say that RP dosn't happen there; I've been told it does a lot. Just that it's a different flavor of RP. They have a much larger playerbase, but the game itself is much more accessable to the casual MUD player, where as Sindome caters exclusively to the serious RP'er. Bigger doesn't always == better.
In short, it's different. Sindome isn't for everyone. In fact it's for the very select few who can maintain the quality of RP we demand of our players. CS isn't for everyone either, but the restrictions on who can get involved are much more relaxed, and therefore offers a very different experience.
Is it better? It's a matter of personal opinion. My advice to you if you do want to play it is to expect to die when your first starting out, a lot, even as a guest, before you make your character, because people won't think twice about killing a newbie right out of the gates. In fact I hear it's a pretty profitable source of income.
But again, your milage may vary, and others will sing a very different tune I'm sure.

Not so. CS, although having some great code and rather clever implementation of usually massively unbalancing aspects of any game (such as lockpicking), also has:
*Shitty descs. Really shitty descs. But then, I'm a desc nazi…
*Players constantly in PK-mode, who work around the RP rules rather than with them, and who also can't spell. (They can't ALL be dyslexic. If they are, dyslexia researchers should study it to see what attracts them.)
*No GM support whatsoever, unless you have 5-10 players in your 'clique' or have been playing for ages.
So, CS generally degenerates into weeks of 'jobbing' at 2am when no one's around, keeping low, talking to no one but your OOC friends and keeping your 'comm' off so no one can find you, saving money to buy expensive guns and armour and hoarding them.
Then, you die.
But while we're on the topic of other games like SD:
There's Iconoclaust, which I personally found dreadfully done, although I hear some people love it. I won't even go into it because I found it so horrifyingly bad.
There's Dnaco's Shadowrun, which is the closest thing I've ever seen to SD. Set in the world of CP with magic, Dnaco's Shadowrun focuses very strictly on RP, supplying only the -bare- minimum in the way of code and relying on GM's and players to keep things moving. A good time starting out if you can get past the rigorous chargen requirements, but once you try and do something interesting with yourself the problems with the lack of code quickly manifest; Combat, or really anything outside of talking or moving around, requires everyone in the room to freeze RP, summon a GM (if one's avaliable), wait for them to appear, and then have them judge the combat by hand, rolling dice and letting people know how they should pose. Absolutely maddening after the first couple of times. If you think it sucks not to be able to get a GM's help around here, try Dnaco's SR sometime.
Everything else (to the best of my understanding) is vaporware (Destiny 3050, Straylight Run, or vapourware in the case of Steel Sky), or isn't around any more. Of course I'm always interested to hear about other CP themed M**'s...

Well, that would be Sindome.
I'm the Chief Technologist (read: Johnny's code monkey) here. I'm responsible for solving the really challenging technicial problems, and managing all things related to code.
As such, you'll rarely see me in the front lines with the GM's. We usually use the 'operator' model, where the GM's are the ones in the trenches doing the shooting, while I and others like me are the eye in the sky supplying them with whatever they need. Think Tank and Trinity, where Trinity's in the Matrix with the gun, and Tank can upload her any skill she needs with the press of a button.

CS was a very different game quite a while ago, though PK was always more a bit more prevalent than it is here. Changes in administration always vastly shifted the focus of the game, which is probably true of any M*.
While I can't speak for the state of things now (I in fact took a stab at playing there again about a year ago and left in very hasty disappointment), I can tell those of you wondering about this place that it used to be quite a great place to RP, with a big playerbase and a VERY active staff.
Sadly I don't see a lot of new code in the 6-7 years since I've been gone. Most of the places I built there are still the newest things on the grid. :)
Stick with SD, kiddies.
Anyway I like some of the stuff from both games, CS is a bit more "complete" at the moment with bikes and stuff, BUT! sindome seems to have a much vaster range of skills and occupations and much more focus on corp side and the oppositions between the two i think. So in the end sindome will or has already surpassed it cos its still evolving.
I've been registered for 24 hours, and from that short time, I was involved in a pretty sweet plot, and the players were pretty good. The problem, however, is with the administration. Now, for all the admins/GM's that have dealt with me, you guys know 9/10 times I'm laid back and cool, and take it in with a cool head.
I wanted to fucking strangle the admin here.
Here…just...take a look...
n addition to the doorways to rooms PH-411 through PH-416, you can go up
(u), down (d), and in (office).
Presidente's Humidor
The entire room is paneled in rich cherry wood; floor, ceiling and walls. It
is warm and very humid and the sweet smell of tobacco is almost overpowering.
A large Cuban flag occupies the entire western wall.
The northernmost wall is occupied by a heavy steel vault door. It appears that
this is Presidente's Secret Closet Of Wonders. I bet there are all
sorts of neat things inside! A desk is here, with no one sitting at it.
El Presidente (OOC) is here, the leg of a $player hanging conspicuously
from the corner of his mouth.
You can go manhole and teleporter.
You have been moved by Presidente.
McGill materializes out of thin air.
Presidente exclaims, "Hi!"
Presidente pulls up a chair and sits down at the desk.
Presidente closes Presidente's Secret Closet Of Wonders.
Presidente says, "Sit."
sit
You pull up a chair and sit down at the desk.
Presidente says, "Let's cut through the BS. I know who you are."
Presidente asks, "Did you think for a second we wouldn't be waiting for you to
return?"
say huh?
You ask, "huh?"
say This is my first time on CS...
You say, "This is my first time on CS..."
Presidente says, "Sure it is."
Presidente asks, "CS eh? Who told you it was nicknamed CS?"
say I play SD too..
Presidente says, "Seeing as this is your first time."
You say, "I play SD too.."
Presidente asks, "So?"
say And they call it CS.
You say, "And they call it CS."
Presidente says, "Since this is your "first time on CS" tell me why you paid
Hobo Joe."
say The guy told me to.
You say, "The guy told me to."
Presidente says, "What guy."
say The one who has the voice in my head.
You say, "The one who has the voice in my head."
say The guy who gave me the implants...
You say, "The guy who gave me the implants..."
say Seriously, you have to have me confused with someone man...
You say, "Seriously, you have to have me confused with someone man..."
Presidente says, "No, I don't think I do."
say Why do you think I'm who you think I am?
You ask, "Why do you think I'm who you think I am?"
say Dude seriously...
You say, "Dude seriously..."
Presidente says, "Seeing as your IP matches a guy we @toaded a few months ago."
say I have AOL
You say, "I have AOL"
Presidente says, "I don't think I have the wrong guy at all."
say MY IP changes everytime I log onto the internet.
You say, "MY IP changes everytime I log onto the internet."
say Becuase I have AOL dialup
You say, "Becuase I have AOL dialup"
Presidente says, "Here's a bit of free advice. Go bad to Sindome. We booted
you for a reason."
say What the hell?
You ask, "What the hell?"
So, directly after this, I get teleported to a coffin. I exit, and (this not being anywhere near where I was pre-teleportation) I am targetted by an assasin who was apparently waiting for me. (NPC, btw)
So, I was able to waste him, and then another one comes chargin in and kills me.
Now how OOC is that?
So, in my first day, I've managed to be mistaken for someone else, killed for a lame ass OOC reason, and targeted by Presidente.
In short, I should of listened to Lotus. Not worth the time to deal with jagoffs like that.
Bixby, you can be VP of Keepin it Real. But only if you want the job.
And Bio, you are laidback and cool?!
:)
To be honest, the few days I spent on CS (and it is called CS by a multitude of people, I don't know what Presidente is talking about there…) were okay, but nothing special. They have some neat features, they have some okay players. But ultimately I stuck with Sindome ( 'SD' ) because it was more enjoyable. It is too bad you had a poor experiance there Bio.
It's probably good SD doesn't have the same coded support, as if SD had all the coded support CS does, while retaining it's own playerbase and admin and such, I'd never leave the fucking house.
And yeah, that's a compliment to everyone :)
I absolutely invite you all to pay your respects and show your support for what promised to be a visionary and orinigal take on the cyberpunk genre privately with the people involved. The website and forums remain up at http://www.steelsky.org I for one was actively awaiting it's fruition and orinigal contributions to the otherwise under-acknoledged genre that is Cyberpunk, and am genuinely sorry to hear that it won't be happening, and hope that the people involved find some other ways to channel their obviously very creative resources.
As you may or may not be aware, I'm an active supporter of other cyberpunk based MOO's, and while I don't directly contribute to their code base, I have spent many hours consulting and offering best-practice advice based on experience to thoes who have solicited it, including members of SS and other CP themed MOO's. It's always sad to see something you hoped would work out not happen.
My hat goes off in salute to you.
