The major components of a room desc are:
Location name - the colored bit.
Description body - the meat and potatoes of the loc desc
Integrated objects - objects with integration messages are merged into the bottom of the location desc, sometimes with ANSI color to identify the object.
Weather - Outdoor locations.
Exits - Exits. Duh.
Contents - Players, non-integrated objects, seats.
And I -think- that covers it. There'd be two obvious ways to incorporate the lasting effects of a incendiary device (burning napalm, etc). Using the integration message section, append a message to the end of the loc desc stating that the room was ablaze. Or adding a whole new component specifically for the job. If anything, it'd be the former, we've already pretty much decided we don't want to further add to the component parts of location descs…
It'd be simple enough to do, but that doesn't effect the standing concerns. Weapons of mass destruction/instant kill -will- unbalance the game if available in significant quantities. If they're not going to be available in significant quantities or will not greatly add to the game, they are -NOT- on the current priority list. Secondly, -any- major explosive device will effect location descs and as Johnny pointed out, that's a plain and simple pain in the ass to be coding. Yes, there will be explosives in the game, infact, there are already explosives in the game, just don't expect to be wiping out city blocks with them.
Either way, enough on the power tripping weapon discussion already, how about discussing things of immediate use to the MOO? Even tho I dismissed it, one of the better suggestions I've seen thus far has been Nicad's plant idea, a nice constructive detail idea that would add to the MOO. Pretty much everything else has been "I want this amazing technology" and "We need that supreme world dominating device.".
To loop completely off thread for a moment... when I started the vehicle forum I wanted player input on things that the vehicle system would need, panel types, brand names, material technologies, discussion about what it would take to make an average vehicle and provide options for customization from the lowest level to the highest level with all options inbetween. I wanted ideas... ideas ideas ideas. Instead all I got was I want, I want, I want.
Blow me. I'll be frank, I don't give a squirt of the mooses finest what you 'want', I only care about what would be good for the MOO.
