Feedback and a farewell

Ephemeralis,

Your typically longer-form and thoughtful responses will be missed around here on the BGBB. I hope you enjoy your time elsewhere, and maybe someday we'll have the chance to RP again.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. As the person just before me said, you and your messages will be dearly missed.

I hope and wish for the best for you in all of your future endeavors.

Eph,

You really inspired me to take chances in the game, and got me off of my ass like nobody else. A lot of us will miss you, and the hard work you've always been putting in. I hope you keep checking in, and come back someday when things are back on track.

Cya Eph.

I have enjoyed reading your posts and I appreciate the amount of thought and effort you put into identifying problem areas within the game AND suggesting ways to improve them.

As a fairly new player I find myself agreeing with a lot of your observations. That said, my experience has been that the staff is doing a great job of balancing fixing long standing bugs (like the elevators) with introducing new features. I spent most of the last six months in the place with the elevator bug, and I can personally attest to plenty of staff interaction on it and overall reduction in how frequently it happens.

One thing that I do want to comment on is the challenge of getting players involved in plots. I 100% agree. My experience has been that unless what I am offering is a simple, zero risk payout, most players are not interested.

The irony of the recent economy change is that I was just at the point where I had enough that I felt comfortable risking it helping out other characters. Given the frequency with which new characters perm out or lose interest and just vanish, you HAVE to assume that anything you're giving another character is just chyen flushed down the drain.

Like you, I don't know what the answer is. Given the current state of things, it does not seem likely to be fixed any time soon though. The sense I get is that there are those who will play the game. And no matter what the payout is, they will continue to play because that's what they are here to do. Then there are those who just want the 'social' aspect of it, and no amount of coaching or cajoling or otherwise trying to get them involved is going to work.

Well this is a disappointment! I was really warming up to your character and enjoyed playing with you, you're great at posing and very talented IC artist (both symptoms of being a great writer) among other things, you got the game and I was definitely invested in seeing your character develop.

Best wishes and hope to see you back

I'm reminded of a quote from "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance".

Farewell and hopefully see you again soon!

Noooo, I'm gonna miss you! :(
I was honestly expecting some hot takes but actually these are all valid points, shame this thread is gonna get deleted though.
Also, I would like to warn any new players that happen to see this to take things with a grain of salt and understand that not all vets are who they say they are. Or even know if they are who they are. To say more would be a breach of etiquette.
See you in 6 months!
Well I'm incredibly sad to hear that you're going away, Eph. You know we've had incredibly good moments ICly and I'll miss you.

I hope you come back someday.

I despise these goodbye/quitting threads and I wish they would all be deleted by some kind of bubblegum bitch automoderator.
Saying you have made games and do so for a living is you trying to put yourself above the developers and staff of this game, to make it seem like you know more than they do and have some sort of authority. Well guess what, you don't! Even if what you said is true, I guarantee you haven't worked on anything as massive as sindome, or if you did, you did it as a cube jockey confined to a very limited subsystem in the game at hand.

Everything you bitch about here is stuff you don't like, you don't see players lining up on the bgbb with the same feelings? Why? Because it's not broken, it just doesn't cater to you.

Every time I read one of your posts I literally cringe irl. You sound like a self-important prick to be honest.

We don't need to accelerate the timescale either. It has been said time and time again that this game is not for everyone, and if you're a casual player, then you don't get the cool stuff as fast. It takes work to get the cool stuff. If everyone had the cool stuff it wouldn't be so cool. And I say this as someone who has had to become a casual player of sindome over time, sometimes for one to two years. And guess what? I still got to the top and it was a hell of a fun ride and never once did I whine to myself about wanting more ue. Which brings me to the next point. Player authority positions are not that few and far between. Just because you never rose to the occasion to get some visibility of them, doesn't mean they don't exist. And frankly, the positions I am talking about shouldn't really be that visible.

On the topic of bugs, it really *really* REALLY is no where near as bad as you say it is. There have been some long lasting funny bugs but that's how it goes some times, especially with as much of the areas of the codebase which seem to get iterated on. If the bug tracker is full, how many of those do you think are actual valid bugs? If you worked on games like you say you do, you'd know that people are actually terrible at determining what is a bug and what is not, and reporting it in a proper manner. Also, how many are probably duplicates? I'd say a massive amount.

I also don't think your comments on GM favoritism are valid, really it just sounds like your trying to poison the well. The fact that you posted this shit publicly also makes it seem like you are trying to poison the well. If you have feedback send it to the staff, the rest of us don't care about your tldr spew bleed.

I am so sick of casuals thinking the rest of the world needs to be dumbed down so they can have a good time. That was the downfall of mmos in the mid to late nineties, exactly people like you. So pat yourself on the back and go play fucking wow.

No, it was worded to be a relation to where Eph is coming from and why he thinks what he thinks. It is not about being above, it is about explaining the point that is being approached from.

Qurion2 see my name, I wasn't talking to you and you don't need to step in to defend this guys honor you fucking white knight.
These posts should result in the op being banned.
This seems to be going predictably well
I'm going to reiterate the 'How to BGBB' post that Slither posted this month. Under 'Things We Consider Poor Form' Item 2 " 'I quit' threads. We are sorry to see you go, but that isn't what the forum is for." Slither put this as the 2nd poor form item for a reason. Please stop doing this.
Everyone, please stop posting to this thread and read out forum rules:

Again, if you are not staff, please do not post to this thread again. At all. For any reason.
