GM APPLICATION #3

This plot is submitted for player review until June 26th, at that time, players will be required to vote for the submission they think is best. Nothing below this point has been touched or modified by me in any way.

Plot: Corporate Debate/War

Background: Withmore Armaments and ZMI are both based in Withmore. Each corporation specializes in development and production of various weapons. Under the table, the two have been working on a joint project to control the flow of weaponry in Withmore in order to pull in a larger profit from increased prices. As the deal finally becomes public, a twist occurs. Martin Endale, the head representative for Withmore Armaments, is found dead. The discussion of a controlled market turns into a heated argument over the death of Endale. Only a few days later, in the middle of the night, three men wearing WAI uniforms are seen leaving the home of ZMIs own representative, Charles Dunworth. The next morning, he is found dead. The argument heats up even more, and continues to erupt.

Behind the Scenes: In reality, either corporation committed the two murders. A third party group known only as the Renegades was responsible. (A possible place for characters to be integrated into prior to the murders. NPC in charge with several other NPC members.) They infiltrated both corps with agents and stole the equipment. Masquerading as agents, they committed the murders in hopes of sparking a war, though this, they hope to gain more influence and power, as well as money. Other third party groups can easily be created as the story progresses, depending on what the players decide to do and act on what they are given.

Possible Events: Eventually, anything could spawn from this; going up to and including a full-scale corporate war. Some corps choose either to remain neutral, hoping to boost business, or take sides. Corporate security forces fighting in the streets, corps offering gear/equipment/money in order to help their cause, etc. The cause behind the initial murders could also be discovered. Why did ZMI murder a WAI rep? Did they? Third party groups could also step in, reaching for profits and spoils. WJF is overcome on most fronts, with Security forces fighting in the streets and citizens joining in, chaos erupts in parts of the dome. The Justice force is barely able to hold the rioting off, keeping some areas safe. Electronic warfare can come into play, with the death of a large portion of the forces killed in the initial conflicts; the corps hire out various mercenaries and medics. While still again third party groups try and get the two to negotiate and end the fighting. Payoffs are possible as well, with all the corporations and high-level people involved, buying services, or just paying to keep ones mouth shut could always be used. Likewise, the Justice forces could institute martial law over sections of, or the whole city. Bombings, lawsuits, and corporate kidnappings are all possible add-ons from the admins point of view to enhance the RP.

Possible Actions for Players: Mercenaries (everything from hired fighters to hired technicians), medics, negotiators, detectives (looking to gather information on why ZMI would kill the representative near the end of a successful business preposition), suppliers (mostly other then weaponry) selling to whom they wish, with the needs of both sides to choose from. News reporters will also be needed to write stories and or perform live reports for the citizens. Couriers will also be needed, as will fixers.

Number of Players involved: MOOwide, everyone can (and should) be involved.

Resources: Ambiant Population can be changed in areas to show what is needed in the specific area, from quieted streets to security force fighting. NPCs are up and about in fighting areas, attacking opposition or just trying to maintain some order. Small forces of both players and NPCs can cross the line for short fights or kidnappings. Basically, a large amount of NPCs would be needed; NLM would need to broadcast beginnings of the debate and would also need to keep the public informed (with possible live reports and deaths) as the situation develops. Every now and then, larger fights can break out instead of the continuous brawling and smaller disputes These can be GM controlled with NPCs dueling it out, players can join in to help a single side, or can watch. All in all, a large NPC base will be needed. Weapons/equipment may become cheaper and/or easier to come by as both corps, open markets and lose equipment during fights. Life in Withmore goes on

Notes: Most likely it will end up as the corporate war. Until then, NLM reports can come in regarding the situation. Leading everyone on, and also opening up possibilities. Since there are two corps working together, and after the deaths, arguing, some of the corps may hire several key players for certain positions. IE: New representatives, fighters to bodyguard current reps, players to be their eyes and ears, etc. From this, information can be spread from behind the scenes regarding what is not- broadcasted, as well as open RP for a great many players.

Also, pushing players into creating third party groups would pull some of the responsibility off the GMs and allow the players more RP situations. Groups such as the Renegades, who have a hand involved, and are looking for rewards, could greatly enhance the RP. Likewise, the RP is open to a great many things; yet, it still is under the control of whoever runs it. The situations will force players to either choose sides, or remain in neutrality, either way, they will have people vying for their support and/or trying to kidnap them for ransom or information. Anything is possible; the only limitations are what the players decide to do. Major events can also be placed into the hands of players. IE, an NPC detective discovers the Renegades and possibly links them to the murders, Renegades set up an ambush. He is shot, dying, tells someone where to find info. Then that player can decide what he/she wishes to do with it. Again, the possibilities are almost endless, and this RP could last quiet a long time.

Its a drastic change… life as we know it in the Dome would shift. I mean... it would be huge for everyone. We, as a whole, are confortable with where we are now... this is good, and bad. Most people don't want to really take risks, then again, the RP is usually very heated and VERY fun and interesting. However... this does open up to everyone, and it offers much side-RP that GMs would not have to control... they could watch to keep up with what the PCs are doing, or just start something else across the street. But they still don't have to be there.

Possibilities are endless... there lies another problem. If its not handled right, we'd just have complete chaos all over the place. Too much IS too much... you never know though, it can be done. Then again, there is so much openess, it might overwhelm the GMs controling it. There is only so much they can do. I dunno, I gotta think about all these.

It's a neat idea. A corp-war is -very- Cyberpunkish.

It sounds like a great mid to long term plot. I can see loads of sub-plots and such falling within the loose guideline here. Though I do find it a bit broad. What happens if players just don't care? It has a lot of potential for characters in corporate situations, less so for those who are not. Which is possibly a good thing. The corporations in the game are fairly thin. It would require a -LOT- of GM resources I would think. Gotta pay the gangers and revolutionarys, not to mention the corpies. Gotta set up the corps. Gotta puppet a gob on NPC's. In fact, there'd be more NPC's RPing than players at times.

Overall, I'd say the initial part about the corp assasinations is cool. It would add to the atmosphere and flavor of the dome, bringing the corps to life a bit more. But having a few assasinations send the entire dome into chaos is a bit much. In terms of resources, especially NPC's that need to be puppeted, it sounds a little heavy. I'm also not sure how the players would fit into the actual goings on. It's almost like something most players would see from the sidelines on the Telly. Are players involved in this 'Renegades' group? Is that group flexable so it could use an excisting PC based gang/group instead of an NPC pioloted one? If not, the 'Renegades' need to be fleshed out. They are fairly flat, and attempting to do some major stuff. There'd need to be a pile of building up to this. Which in itself is a good thing. Pile mini plots and sub plots on eachother setting PC's in place to be a part of the larger picture. I think if the plot were just implimented straight up, it would just fly past a lot of players as a blip on the NLM boards because very few could be involved in anything past the reprocussions of the assasinations. (Riots, increase WJF presance, yadda.) Though the reprocussions could be interesting in that black market info/gear would have something to talk/sell about/too.

Dead WJF:
1) Large amount of action/ rp potential, mostly action, lots of violence *eyes light up* shows the candidate believes in good rp, but also believes in the necessity of busting out some mk's and going to town.

2)  Works from existing corps, shows the candidate will utilize in place dome development, which will leave the other GM's more free to code.

3)  Large employment posibilities, new employers-mercenaries, security, etc.-good use of PC's and a good way to draw newbies right into the meat of the dome.

Live WJF:
1)  Current sissiffied dome climate, domer apathy may lead to this war having little effect on rp.

2)  Another corporate war, hooray.  Some of the other war scenarios had a lot more aspects developed fundamentally into them, this one seems like a fairly large, yet very small scale war.

3)Still requires a large number of GM time and NPC's to direct the course of the plot

The thing that strikes me about this one… is the fact that it is such a monumental change in Dome life. I personally think that alone would offer more varieties of RP then before. On the other hand, (And this goes for ALL the applications) player apathy might fall in... but, that is a problem with any plot you try and put out, it takes GM involvement and guidance to keep the RP alive. Thats the key, thats why we are replying to these applications. Now... The way I do see this one, is that it would require alot of GM guidance to get it started... and to guide it. GMs would need to throw in some stuff occasionally as it says. But, from there... its all PCs. Look at the possiblity up there... lets say... oh, Nic was hired by one of the corps for a diplomatic position... on the  other hand, Pulse was hired for the other. GMs can act through NPCs and give them both information... then they can mainstream the RP and work on negotiations that NPCs may or may not be a part of, and that yet another PC is watching for NLM.

Anyways, my next point is what i see as a potential problem with this one... no,not potential. This one doesn't seem to hold onto the original cause and the building up to the main event. If that were added, this would offer even more RP and positions for players. But, its not there. Again, as with all the applications, a little fine tuning... adding a bit here and there... and this one could be awsome.
