I was taking a drive with Desolate, and Lucien the other day and we where talking about how theres at least five of us that live in the chicagoland area. I was just wondering where everyone is from, and if it would be possible to meet and greet over drinks or soda pop(for you youngn's) I know that some of you live over seas and some across the country, But i myself wouldnt mind taking a trip somewhere inbetween to meet the lot of ya. We spend so much time interacting in front of these boxes id just like to see some of ya face to face. Think its a good idea? Post it and say so

Y'all welcome to arrange meets and such but to keep you up to speed, the second annual Sindome COTbash has been discussed and is, pending finalization of arrangements, probably going to be in Calgary, Canada sometime towards the end of the summer (Maybe August).
The first COTbash was a reletive letdown with everyone cancelling at the last minute, but nevertheless, myself, Nixxi, Johnny and Iga started the tradition that is now known as COTbash (Crap On That).
Additionally, anyone ever in the Toronto area, or indeed anywhere in the GTA, shoot me a notelet and we'll see if we can't hook up for coffee, strippers and/or some general CS bashing.

That sounds great Rastus. Maybe someone from the area could try to find out about finding a hotel that does a bulk rate thingy, that way we have somewhere for us all to stay. I mean im from the US and i dont really know squat about Canada. So any travel arrangements id make would be shotty at the least. But id have no problem with saving my pennies for a trip for a weekend or something. And im sure if there was like a (i hesitate to say but a)- convention-, with room and board pretty figured out and it was a good solid plan, that almost everyone would try to make the trip. Hehe we could even get parental permission slips for the youngn's LOL.

*whines* But I can't get to Calgary! That's super far away! Well, if the people from the midwest want to travel together and split the cost, I could run around and pick people up.. Course, after a while I may have to start stuffing people in the trunk.. Eh, we'll manage.. Hey.. Isn't Luc from the midwest? *evil grin* Luc's got the trunk seat!

Yeah Des, we are from the Midwest. Now think of the people who live in Australia or the U.K. , i mean that's a major haul for them, we are talking driving they gotta fly. And im serious when i'd like to meet everyone, even thouse out of the North American continent. You do Raise a really good point why not try to carpool? I mean if we're going to plot a land course we might as well try to make a few stops along the ways to pick people up…anyways im just babling on and on. I'd really like to hear for of this Bash that rastus was talking about, i mean when the admins figure out any details.

ROADTRIP!
But yeah… even with carpooling, if you're full and passing close to someone else then we don't have to limit things to one car (assuming others can drive).

Depending on how long of a trip it is…it may be cheaper to rent a car...split it between all riding in it.
I would drive (if I could even get the time off) but I wouldn't want to put those miles on my car.
Can anyone steal their parents car?? (JUST KIDDING)

Actually, we could rent one of those big vans.. I was going to do that with some people for a trip to Mardi Gras.. It's relatively cheap the more people that go.. I'm up for it, if I can get the time off, which shouldn't be a problem.. As for the people in other countries.. I'd love to go get you guys, too, but I have no idea how to drive on water. :(

No, hummers do not float, they weigh a shitload. But, their air intake is normally mounted on the roof, so the whole vehicle can be submerged up to the intake and the engine will still run. Its useful for crossing shallow bodies of water.
And whats all this talk of cars? Plane tickets are cheap cheap cheap all the way back and forth across the country.

I am -not- flying. Go ahead and call me a wuss, but it has nothing to do with Sept. 11. I'm just not keen on the idea of letting some stranger hold my life in his hands as he flies hundreds and hundreds of feet above the ground. Besides! That would take all the fun out of a road trip! :) I dunno.. Guess it doesn't matter, long as we can all find our way up there….
And it's the WWII Ducks that can go on land and water, isn't it?

I don't have a problem flying, I'm Canadian!
In fact, I'm flying to Minnesota (which is like Canada except with swedes) sometime in the summer to visit my fiancee's folks (who live in the middle of the woods), so if I time it right I might be able to make it to Calgary, city of canadian cowboys and toothpaste, for your party thing. w00t.

I like Desolate's idea. A van would be a good idea, we would just have to work it out so the person who rented it was the first person to leave (pretty much the person who lives furthest from Calgary thats in the pool)

One 15 passenger van @ Enterprise Rent-a-car
$75/day base
Insurance was about $45 (or all drivers need to be insured for 1 ton vehicle under personal car insurance.)
plus tax
you'd have to have the driver's license of other drivers on hand. Faxed even.

Well…since I live in Calgary I suppose I should do something...
When the day gets closer, and the destination is 100% I'll look into hotel rentals and whatnot. And road tripping it is cheeper if you have lots of peeps with you. It's about $400.00/1500 miles if you drive a car for gas. That van's prolly gonna add 50% onto that...so about $600.00 plus renting, so it would be like $2600.00 for the ride. Now, if you even had 4 people, thats like $700.00 in travel expenses. More people, the less it gets. course, it is a 3 day drive from chicago to Calgary. maybe 4 if you are weak, or 2 if you round robin it for 24 hours. Now, food is like $20.00/day per person, then there are hotel rooms.
Good thing is that you yanks have clout with the exchange rate.
Anyhow, in July if it's still in Cowtown, I'll look into hotels...when's G8 by the way? I think it's June...if it is around COTbash time, getting a room in Calgary will be imposible...anyhow, more later.

You people are nuts… was bad enough in TO, now Calgary? *boggles* I'm still voting for Louisiana or Bermuda... course I'll probably end up going to either one before I go way out there anyway.
So unless somebody plans on driving to Nova Scotia to pick me up or I come across a nicely paying job so I can fly all the way out west.. probably won't be seeing me at this one either.

Being the -only- person from PA (aside from Damon who's now in the good ole, USAF and god knows where. and Johnny who left us for {yuck} Kali.), I'm kinda fucked. If the anual COTMOObash was placed in/on a different continant every year I think that would make it fair. Plane tickets within the us are relitivly cheap and group fairs are cool, so everybody in the us could meet at an airport, (provided they don't hit any buildings), and go from there.
I don't think it's fair to have put the bash in or around the same place every year. One year Canada, one year the US, one year australia (cause I'm dying to go there) and one year for our cusions in (giggle) England or europe in general, and start the whole process over again would be cool.
But I'm poor, so I'd just have to attend in spirit, unless it was in the new convention center that keeps falling over. I've had my fill of traveling to meet people, they aren't any different, they shit on you just like the people you meet everyday. *shrugs* what happened to community?

You'd really have to read Rache Bartmoss' Guide To The Net (CP2020 sourcebook) to get it.
See, Rache was going on about how cities over here have strange names, he started with Thunder Bay but he went bonko when he got to Calgary. It's a miracle he didn't mention Guelph.
