I don't know if someone's done this already, or if yawl object to talking ooc, but if you're bored, drop by #sindome on dalnet and say hi ;)
There's already a SinDome IRC channel…not on DalNet though. In fact, I forget where it is. But it's somewhere.
That's correct, we have an IRC channel setup for whatever you people want to use it for. Mostly it's used when SD goes down for lengthy periods of time.

Here's the post about it:
http://www.sindome.org/cgi-bin/ikonboard//topic.cgi?forum=6&topic=16

We don't object to OOC discussion, infact, I positively encourage it. However, two humble requests…

Please, please, please keep IC and OOC seperate. There's nothing worse that people using IC knowledge gathered OOCly to change/effect their characters IC actions. Really, please, just don't do it. If in -any- doubt whatsoever if someone may use what you have to say to effect the game, keep it to yourself. Try to look at it this way, would you like someone to fuck up your fun with OOC manipulation? None of the admin want to waste time scrutinizing every player action and interaction to try and catch out OOC abuse, it's no fun for us and it's wasting time we could be spending working on plots for you or coding new features for you. No-body wins.

Secondly, and in a way this ties in the with the above, the game is about conflict and without conflict alot of the potential fun would be lost. That said, keep the conflict IC and the off-MOO buddy buddy OOC. I'm all for developing the already good OOC community Sindome has, but things will very quickly get boring if everyone gets buddy buddy OOCly and lets that bleed into the IC world. Then all we end up with is happy fluffy bunny MOO and seriously, that just does not fit my vision of gritty cyberpunk enviroment. ICly, think greed, power and more power to your side-arm. Live by the law of the gun and remember, -everyone- is out to fuck you. Set up some IC conflict with your OOC friends and remember conflict does NOT mean all out war. Subtle power games, manipulations, veiled threats and conflicting interests. As the GM's have heard me say many times, think of Sindome as a lake. If you put all your effort into throwing a huge rock into the lake all you get is a big ugly splash that disrupts everything and is over and forgotten in minutes, with just a few ripples left to show your effort was ever there. Instead, spread your effort out by throwing pebbles and watching the ripples of your effort spread across the dome. Many small actions will have a very wide spread effect.

Anyhow, I tangent, as usual.

By all means let the OOC thrive, but -NEVER- at the cost of IC. Let's keep Sindome the rich weaving it deserves to be.

I'm just curious where that post came from Rastus? Because usually there's something leading up to one of your long-ish posts, and for the life of me I can't figure it the fuck out.
Helping out newbies seems like a pretty nice thing to do, yet we're encouraged to do THAT. Should we instead kill them for their measly posessions and leave their molested corpses rotting in a dumpster?
Not at all…Think of it in terms of a strategy game. You want to do a good job of 'KEEPING' new players, sharing with them what you love about the place. You don't have to be completely OOC to help them...HOWEVER, once they get the controls down, you don't let em get away with as much...

You play Unreal Tourney, Red Alert etc with your friends and buddies, but when they attack your base, you don't flip out and hate them. They're just playing the game.

There's a balance to be had there. You don't go 'ALL OUT' on someone who just stepped out of CHARGEN, you allow their character to plant its roots in the soil. At the same time, if they seem 'seasoned' in SD life, you RP accordingly. And we don't let Oldbies get away with anything, cuz they should know better ;P

That was a joke, by the way.  =)
Rastus, That almost brought a tear to MY eye!:)

What? the Moo can't turn into a glorified IRC? :-P
